The Technical Inspection of Vehicles, better known as ITV, is mandatory for all vehicle owners when they reach a certain age. If you have a car, you will have to pass your first ITV when it is four years old since its first registration, and from that moment on you will have to pass the review every two years until it is ten years old. For older cars, it will be necessary to pass the ITV every year until they end up in the scrapyard.

How much does it cost to pass the ITV? The Spanish Association of Collaborating Entities of the Administration in the Technical Inspection of Vehicles AECA-ITV has just published the updated ITV rates at the national level for 2022. They are fixed rates established by each Autonomous Community, except in the case of Catalonia, which are maximum amounts. Only Andalusia, Aragon, Castilla y León, the Basque Country and Navarra have regulated specific rates for electric cars.

AECA-ITV publishes the ITV price rates managed by the Autonomous Communities.

ANDALUSIA:

Non-catalyzed passenger cars: €32.51. Catalyzed passenger cars: €32.51. Diesel passenger cars: €36.73. Electric cars: €20.6

Andalusia rates have a 10% bonus if the inspection is submitted before expiration. If the ITV is carried out one month after the expiration date, the rate is increased by 12%.

What about Madrid and Murcia?

In the price rates published by AECA-ITV, those of Madrid and Muria are not included because they are not regulated by the Autonomous Community. In the case of the Community of Madrid, the management of ITV centers is private, that is, the service is liberalized. In the case of Murcia they are also free competition prices.

A study carried out by Facua-Consumers in Action last July revealed differences of up to 166.7% in ITV rates for cars with a gasoline engine and up to 99% for cars powered by a diesel engine. When analyzing the Community of Madrid, an average price of €34.69 was reflected for gasoline passenger cars and €41.68 for diesel. Murcia also appears in the study among the most expensive to pass the ITV to a diesel car (€48.26 on average).

Although prices may vary depending on the inspection center chosen, the rates in 2022 are around:

MADRID: Gasoline passenger cars: between €40.20 and €51.95. Diesel passenger cars: between €55.95 and €65.75. With discounts, those for gasoline stay between €27.95 and €35.95, and diesel between €37.95 and €45.95.

MURCIA: Non-catalyzed passenger cars: €33.49. Catalyzed passenger cars: €40.23. Diesel passenger cars: €33.49. Diesel cars plus gases: €53.98.

Some Autonomous Communities have regulated a specific rate to pass the ITV of electric cars, cheaper than that of gasoline or diesel.

Why is the ITV of electric cars cheaper?

The main reason is that an electric vehicle does not emit any type of gas and, furthermore, it is completely silent, so it does not require emission or noise tests.

The Autonomous Communities that do not have a regulated rate for electric cars charge the same price as for a gasoline one.

Fines for breaching the ITV

To conclude, we remind you that not passing the ITV when appropriate is considered a serious offense and carries a fine of 200 euros. Here are all the fines:
