Google
The only downside is that it still doesn’t say if the charger works
Improvements are coming in one of the two most downloaded navigation systems worldwide; but, this time, the users of electric cars will be the big beneficiaries. Google Maps shows the location of fast charging points; In addition, it allows you to filter the results according to the type of plug.
Until now, the app showed where to charge the battery, but not at what power. Those responsible say that this function can already be used in practically any country that has an electric vehicle charging network.
Fast charge: more than 50 kW
With the new update, Google’s navigation technology will show the location of all charging points that have a power greater than 50 kW.
In addition, the user will be able to filter the results by plug type choosing between CCS Combo 1 and 2, J1772, wallbox, Tesla or CHAdeMO.
How to enable the feature
For Google Maps to show the location of fast charging points, the “electric car chargers” function must be activated from the application’s search engine. From here the filters are selected (power, plug type…).
What, at the moment, is not available is updated information on the charger’s situation, that is, if it works or is damaged. This is a request from many users of electric cars who, upon reaching the charging point, find it out of service, with the damage that this entails.
The functions of Google Maps for electric cars
The location of the fast charging points is added to the possibility of visualizing the most efficient route instead of the fastest or the shortest that the browser launched a few weeks ago.
Older is the option to see on the screen where the chargers are (without indicating power), in the same way that it can be requested to show where the nearest gas stations are and what price each of the fuels for sale have.
