Volkswagen T-Cross cabrio test, does it make sense to buy it?

A convertible SUV doesn’t seem like the most sensible option. Or if?

We tested the 150 hp 1.5 TSI version of the VW T-Roc Cabrio and we tell you why it makes sense to buy it.

In its day, the Range Rover Evoque was the first convertible. Many did not understand it, but the fact is that it was cool and had its clientele. Now it is no longer for sale and Volkswagen has filled that gap with this T-Roc Cabrio, a car that, I assure you, steals many glances.

There are those who think that lately all VW models look the same, but surely they do not think the same of this model, which is like a breath of fresh air for the Wolfsburg brand.

From 0 to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds

The unit that we have tested is equipped with the 1.5 TSI 150 CV engine and a seven-speed DSG transmission, although in the range there is also an access model to the range with a 100 CV 1.0 engine, which I do not recommend because it consumes almost the same and for its worse benefits.

Of course, it costs only 32,470 euros. This 150 CV goes from 0 to 100 in 9.4 seconds, but what stands out the most is that from far below it is really energetic, thanks to its 250 Nm of torque from 1,500 rpm.

The soft top opens and closes in gear up to 30 km/h in just 9 seconds; Most of the time the turbulence in the cabin is minimal if you use the air deflector. Of course, in this case the rear seats are disabled.

Access to the second row is not exactly comfortable, despite the fact that the seats move to facilitate it.

Another thing that I did not like is its trunk: not only does it offer little capacity, but it also has a narrow cargo opening that makes it difficult to fill it, but if you want an automatic roof that folds as quickly as this one, you cannot demand a large cargo capacity.

7.7 litres/100km

Regarding its behavior, although there are certain differences with the bodied version, because this one weighs 91 kg more and is somewhat less rigid, the truth is that they are not important and you can roll on all types of terrain at a lively pace and you will take more joy than disappointments, especially if you equip it with the adaptive suspension DCC (1,030 euros).

Consumption will not spoil your party either: in this test it has used 7.7 liters on average.

In terms of equipment, this R Line version that I have tested comes with almost everything: 10.25″ Digital Cockpit, 8″ browser (9.2″ Discover Pro, 1,705 euros) and Android Auto or wireless Apple CarPlay.

Apart from this, I would recommend the Comfort Package (1,410 euros), because it includes voice control, heated steering wheel and keyless access.

conclusion

It’s not a perfect car, but it follows its own path and is one of a kind, which is why I give it a very good grade.

Today it is difficult to distinguish yourself and with the T-Roc Cabrio, of course, you would achieve it.

It is well equipped, it is cool, it does not spend too much and it is agile.

conclusion

The best

Great thrust, good performance and quite reasonable consumption for its power. Versatile and recommended mechanic.

Worst

It convinces more by its concept and its design than by its spaciousness. The front is fine, the space behind is small and the trunk is too.
