It was a motorcycle ahead of its time and the result of a very curious mix of cultures and philosophies: we are talking about the Husqvarna Nuda 900, about which we offered you an extensive report a year ago.

That first Nuda 900 from more than a decade ago had a Nordic name and an Italian surname, since the original factory was Scandinavian and was later acquired by the Cagiva Group… and finally, by BMW.

The Nuda was manufactured in 2011, and in this way and due to this mixed origin, in the MV Agusta factory in northern Italy, mounting the BMW twin engine derived from that of the F 800, but increased in displacement to 898 cc Est two-cylinder yielded a good 105 CV, for a weight of only 175 kg.

The Husky had an excellent chassis and was produced in two versions, one standard and one R, which mounted monobloc calipers and Öhlins suspension.

The two versions of the Nuda 900. The R (in red), mounted Brembo monobloc radial calipers and Öhlins suspensions.

Because of its very personal and advanced lines, or because of its concept between streetfighter and supermotard, the Nuda did not catch on and soon disappeared from dealerships, just two years after its launch (it also coincided with the purchase of the brand by KTM). It is currently listed on the second-hand market, since due to its design and short production it was considered a ‘rare bird’ and, in addition, it was an excellent sports car, especially the R.

As we have said, Husqvarna changed hands again in 2014 (the third time in 10 years) and went to the Pierer Group, to which KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas belong.

Return

Some spy images, obtained by the German Motorrad, show a new Husqvarna with characteristics very similar to those of the 2012 Nuda 900.

The bike seems to be based on the KTM 890 SMT that we have been talking about for some time and that the Mattighofen brand has officially announced this week.

The trellis frame and suspension also seem to be the same as the SMT, meaning more travel than the Duke, but less than the Adventure. Both wheels are alloy and 17”, with all-asphalt tires. And of course, the engine is the parallel twin. It remains to be seen if the 890 or the imminent 990…

It is clear that the bike in the photos is far from a final version, so the ‘orange-KTM’ elements must be ignored. But you do have to do it with the shield-shaped headlight, not at all in line with the orange motorcycles and it does remind one of the original Nuda. oh! And above all, that overalls and that Husqvarna jacket that the test riders wear…
