SkyShowtime’s latest offer was so good that I couldn’t resist. I gave it two months at a bargain price because I had in mind to watch the new Frasier series. However, then I have been watching other content and, in the first month that has passed, I cannot say that I have not made the service profitable. I still have a few weeks left in the second month, but it will be better to take stock and see if it has really been worth it to me.
Without mysteries, the first thing I did when sign up for SkyShowtimeafter choosing my Dwight Schrute avatar for my user account, it was search for Frasier. It was my goal. I grew up watching Cheers with my parents and then Frasier on Canal+, so it’s a must-watch series. But there were only a few episodes and I watched it in no time. From there I continued taking advantage of what the streaming service provides.
What other series have I seen?
I am a simple guy and not much of a sybarite. Well, that also goes by season. But in this case I have preferred to do what I like and stop doing many experiments. Therefore, I can tell you that I have divided the series that I have seen between those that I had already seen and that I like to watch again from time to time, and those that have been totally new to me. The ones I’ve already seen are not because I’ve bought into all the seasons, but from time to time I wear them while I’m having dinner after work.
Among those classic series we have The Office (I was already watching it on Netflix, so it’s not like it was very decisive), Frasier (the original), House, The A-Team, Fantastic Car and No One Lives Here (although it is everywhere, so…). Regarding new series, I have started with some and, yes, I have not completed them in all cases. Lately I’m in one of those moments where I want more movies than series, I’m sure you understand what I mean.
I’ve seen Tulsa King, because I have a soft spot for Stallone and, on top of that, he’s wonderful. Cool, surely if it were garbage, like Stallone appears, I would watch it too. Or maybe not, because I haven’t played the reality show with his family even on the darkest nights of the month. I’ve also seen Mayor of Kingstown, although I’m missing Hawkeye shooting any arrows. Of course, I have swallowed Knuckles, because I will have to see it to follow the thread of the movies. I was thinking about watching Halo, but then I thought about it again. I’ve also seen episodes of Ted, not in full yet. I liked the movies more. I tried Rabbit Hole, but I couldn’t stop thinking about 24… who knows what the reason was.
Plus, everyone tells me to see Yellowstone and 800,000 people around me can’t be wrong. But, in a way, I still haven’t found the time. You have to be a cowboy for this type of series. And I’ve also tried to watch Chicago Fire, because I saw it on television before, but I lost count of the season I was on and I still haven’t figured it out. Plus, now there are a thousand crossovers with other series and… it gives a headache.
And what movies have I seen on SkyShowtime?
There are those who say that SkyShowtime is a service more focused on series than movies. But nothing could be further from the truth! The truth is that there are a lot of movies, both new and new and old, so it is highly recommended in both cases. I have to admit that I have come across fairly recent films that I had not seen and that have come in handy to finish pending film work. But, as in the case of series, I have also rewatched many old ones. It’s not that I’m watching them with 100% of my attention, but there they are, helping to make the day more enjoyable.
Those classics I’ve rewatched include: Twister, The Truman Show, Jurassic Park, Minority Report, Top Gun, The Breakfast Club, This House’s a Ruin, Hollywood Detective, Terminagolf, Hollywood Detective III, Virgin Mary the 40s, The Big Waste, Waterworld, The Reporter, The Meaning of Life… and a lot more. Nor is it a plan to give you the list of all the movie classics that I have the habit of watching over and over again without any type of control. I must say, however, that SkyShowtime has surprised me with the large number of movies it has in its catalogue, although it is also true that many of them do not last long enough and end up being deleted (some come back, others don’t).
Like new movies that I have enjoyed. And it is understood as new that they are recent, of course Oppenheimer has been one of the first. Essential. I’ve also seen Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which I don’t think will become a great franchise, and Mission: Impossible Death Sentence, which is pretty awesome. I’ve seen The Pool, which is fine for a while, the same as going to the building’s community pool when summer begins. I haven’t missed Please don’t destroy: The Mountain Treasure, which ends up being a bit pedantic, Heist 88 and Five Nights at Freddy’s, the latter being quite cool.
All in all, my experience with SkyShowtime has been good. It is a platform that makes me a little dizzy with the premieres and catalog content it has. It doesn’t give as much security as Netflix, where you know that a series is going to stay for a long time, and I’m also not convinced that many of the classic series that I subscribed to are going to be removed from the service. But overall, I’m not unhappy. As long as Frasier continues, I will surely continue subscribed as a SkyShowtime user. Then we’ll see.
