This is all that nobody knows about Liux, the new Spanish car brand that will present its first car, the Liux Animal, on November 10.
The Spanish automobile industry could currently be reduced to two major manufacturers, Seat and Cupra, but there are also companies specializing in the manufacture of vehicles and auxiliary companies. In addition, there has been a new player on the national board for two years now and he will focus his activity on the electric vehicle.
Its name is Liux, a Spanish start-up that focuses its activity on the development and manufacture of electric cars. Based in Santa Pola (Alicante), the company founded in October 2020 by Antonio Espinosa de los Monteros, who is an architect by training, and David Sancho is preparing for the launch of what will be its first production vehicle, the Liux Animal.
Liux, everything that nobody knows about the new car brand from Spain
Liux’s goal is to change the rules of the automobile with a sustainable, recyclable and reusable approach. To do this, the use of alternative materials to traditional metals makes a technological, ecological and, above all, economically accessible vehicle available to future customers of the company specializing in electric cars.
Antonio and David’s company intends to become a Spanish car manufacturer with the aspiration of competing globally with the giants of the automobile industry. And they will begin to do so from 2024, when their first electric car begins to be manufactured, the Liux Animal, which will be presented on November 10 at La Nave, in Madrid.
The Spanish company aims to be the most sustainable in the sector, using plant-based materials and, therefore, not offering products beyond the reach of the average buyer. They are going to compete with the most important manufacturers in the market and have already managed to raise a financing round of 2 million euros in exchange for 15% of Liux.
The Liux Animal is the first car of this young Spanish company
The first model to land on the market as a result of this Spanish company is the Liux Animal. It is a compact electric car that will measure just 1.34 meters in height and will weigh 1,700 kilos. Its design will be sporty, but without excesses, so as not to lose practicality and usability on a day-to-day basis.
One of its main characteristics is that it will have a body with 90% of its materials of plant origin. For its creation, body molds with 3D printing have been used and we find materials such as linen and biobased resin made from soy and vanilla.
This first electric car without a B-pillar and with inverted opening rear doors is completely electric and will have a curious system of interchangeable batteries. Liux intends that they be easily removable using only a lift, so they can be changed once their useful life is exhausted or replaced by larger capacity or more updated ones.
At the moment, the Animal will have a battery supplied by Panasonic with a capacity of 23 kWh and a weight of about 100 kilos. They will be offered as a pack of two or four batteries, so there will be a version with 45 kWh and another with 90 kWh of energy capacity.
The BorgWarner electric motor, which is located on the rear axle, will allow the Liux Animal to travel up to 300 kilometers with the 45 kWh battery and up to 600 kilometers with the 90 kWh battery. In addition, it will include 800-volt technology for fast charging.
Manufacturing, distribution and future production figures
Another characteristic of Liux as a car manufacturer is that it intends to locate the factories near the distribution points and that the vehicles will be sold directly through the Internet. The after-sales service, meanwhile, will be carried out in Bridgestone’s First Stop workshops in Spain and will be carried out by Liux’s own technicians.
Liux’s objective is to market between 4,500 and 5,000 units when the Animal reaches production in 2024, increasing this figure to 15,000 units in 2025 and reaching 50,000 cars per year from 2026.
In addition, the Liux Animal will not be the only model that the Spanish company will produce. Liux intends to become a car manufacturer and that means expanding the product portfolio by introducing an SUV, a small car and a GT in the coming years.
