V-16 signal
We have been talking to you about the new light signal that will be mandatory from 2026 for a long time, although you can already use it. But there are still many doubts about this new device. For example: can you be fined if you don’t have the DGT light in the car?
As you already know, the V-16 light is a new signaling device that will replace the traditional triangles. It consists of a yellow light that adheres to the roof of the vehicle by means of a magnet if it is stopped on the road due to a breakdown or any other emergency.
This DGT light has a number of advantages over triangles: the most important is that you don’t have to get out of the car to put it on, thus reducing the risk of being run over. In addition, it has a much greater visibility, up to a kilometer around.
The V-16 light will not be mandatory until 2026, although the emergency lights you buy today will not work for you by that date.
Luz DGT, can you be fined now if you don’t have it in the car?
The DGT light will not be mandatory until 2026, when the triangles will no longer be used. So far, both elements can coexist. But can they fine you now if you don’t have it in the car? The answer is no.
You cannot be fined for not having the V-16 light, since its use will not be mandatory until 2026. However, it is mandatory to have a signaling system in the vehicle, either the light device or the traditional triangles.
In case you stay lying on the road and do not use any of these elements, then you can be sanctioned with a fine of 200 euros. But it is a fine for not signaling the position of the vehicle after experiencing an emergency, regardless of the approved signaling system used.
Remember that the warning triangles must be placed 50 meters from the vehicle and be visible from a distance of at least 100 metres. In addition, the use of the triangles is complemented by the placement of the reflective vest.
