The mobile telephone and Internet provider DIGI continues to grow in Spain and Marius Varzaru, the CEO of DIGI Spain, has given an interview to the ADSLZone group, to highlight why more and more customers are opting for its services. The company offers “the best technology at our best price”, something that it promises will not change in 2024. In fact, the professional has announced that they will continue working to consolidate their brand in the sector, with the deployment of their own fiber networks and mobile, and that they are committed to creating direct work for Spaniards.

Marius Varzaru began his professional experience at the consulting firm KPMG (in its office in Romania), where he remained until 2005. That year he joined RCS & RDS (DIGI), reaching the position of financial director. Later, in 2008, he was appointed executive director (CEO) of DIGI Spain, a position in which he continues today. Since his promotion, DIGI has been growing and will continue to do so thanks to the plans that Varzaru has in mind for 2024.

According to the CEO, DIGI is on a good streak: “We have obtained more than 240,000 ports in the first two months of the year [más de un 45% en comparación con 2023]. In February, we have added more than 123,000 lines. This figure continued to rise in March. In fact, in the first quarterly report of 2024, the firm boasted 355,700 ports [más de 208.500 son de móvil]so more and more people are making the leap to DIGI.

In mobile telephony, DIGI closed 2023 with 4.3 million customers. This is an increase of 23% compared to the previous year, according to Varzaru for the ADSLZone group. In addition, to this figure we must add the more than 208,500 individuals in the first three months of this year.

Regarding fiber, the percentage of growth has been higher, although the overall numbers are lower. Varzaru highlights the company’s mission of bringing fiber to every home: “At DIGI we already have 1.37 million customers in this service [fibra]which represents a strong increase, specifically 63%, compared to the previous year.

To continue growing in homes, DIGI is committed to maintaining the strategy that it has been defending for years. As Varzaru emphasizes, the team continues to improve its services with the deployment of its own fiber and mobile network without raising its prices.

DIGI news planned for 2024

Network infrastructures are compelling reasons for the client to decide to switch to DIGI and the brand does not neglect this aspect. Varzaru assures that they are committed to continuing to offer “the best technology at our best price.” In fact, he anticipates that the prices of his services will not increase in 2024.

Cheap rates are a key factor for DIGI, especially due to the high inflation that has caused difficult times in Spanish society. The executive director guarantees that DIGI has always tried to offer the best possible proposal and, therefore, in 2023 they launched SMART fiber, with 500 Mb for 15 euros per month.

On the other hand, the company intends to continue deploying its own fiber network, so as not to depend on other firms. In this regard, the CEO emphasizes that DIGI became “the first operator in Spain to offer WiFi 7 technology.” As the professional explains, WiFi 7 “offers higher data transmission speeds, reduces latency and provides a better connection.” This technology is increasingly present in more devices: “Shortly it will be almost a standard in any electronic device we buy on the market.”

The fastest fiber network

DIGI obtained the title of the fastest fiber network in Spain for the third consecutive year in the prestigious Speedtest Awards, according to data collected between July and December 2023. The award is presented by Ookla, the main international platform for speed tests that analyzes millions of measurements from Internet users daily.

The graph that we show below includes more than seven million pieces of data collected by the platform and that supports why DIGI continues to be considered the fastest fiber network. According to the results, the operator’s Internet has a maximum download speed of 891.71 Mbps and a maximum upload speed of 912.47 Mbps. In addition, its average latency is only 8 ms.

DIGI, a company committed to direct employment

The Spanish operator is committed to creating direct work, something of which they are very proud. In fact, they have their own call center, a department that is typically handled by an external company.

Thanks to its own call center, the brand boasts good quality customer service and greater business control. The executive director values that having it integrated allows them to “offer quality products at a good price and very good service and response times, in any situation.”

Varzaru points out that they currently have “more than 7,500 employees.” Without going any further, last year they generated about 1,500 new jobs. The professional believes for the ADSLZone group that DIGI is the operator that has been generating the most employment in the sector in recent years: “We believe that this strategy demonstrates that a company can create value for society and at the same time compete by offering quality products to a competitive price”.

The CEO points out that “in times of economic uncertainty, the positive impact that companies can have on society is key.” For this reason, the firm is willing to continue offering its “best possible proposal” to clients and to continue betting on direct employment.

The operator market in the next five years

The leader of DIGI considers that the Spanish market must be separated from the rest of Europe when talking about the evolution of the telecommunications sector. As Varzaru predicts in the interview for ADSLZone, we will witness greater consolidation within five years. DIGI will be one of the main players on the Spanish scene.

The company hopes to continue building on this strength in the future. As the company that won the MásOrange merger remedies, the CEO affirms that they will continue to develop their fiber and mobile telephone networks. For now, Varzaru does not want these efforts to improve its services to be reflected in the price.
