Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV

These are the plans for new electric cars from Mitsubishi. The company with the three diamonds will not be one of the most active in this segment.

Car manufacturers have focused on the electric car as a bet for the future. The plans of most companies are to fully electrify their model range in this same decade, or at the beginning of the next. But not all brands will follow the same rhythm. Today we talk about plans for new electric cars from Mitsubishi.

The third pillar of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance does not currently have a fully electric car in its product range. In fact, the offer is very limited right now, with the Space Star, Eclipse Cross PHEV and L200 being the only vehicles for sale.

Of all of them, the most similar to an electric is the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. It is a mid-size crossover with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. However, there is no car for sale in Mitsubishi that is electric and, in addition, the Outlander, another model with its corresponding Plug-in Hybrid variant, is not available in the product portfolio.

And in the coming years we do not expect great news, according to what has been announced recently. The most important was the Mitsubishi Airtrek EV, an electric SUV that, unfortunately, will not come to Europe. It was presented at the end of 2021 and focuses all its attention on the Chinese market, where the brand sells it through GAC Mitsubishi Motors Co.

So that in Europe we can have an electric Mitsubishi, we will have to wait for something else. At the moment, the information is very limited, but we know that there will be a model that will derive from the Alliance and that it will have its own interpretations also in the Renault and Nissan brands.

On the other hand, the Japanese firm presented last month the Mitsubishi EK X EV. This little electric car, derived from Nissan (it is actually the Nissan model, but with the Mitsubishi logos), has a 64 hp motor and a 20 kWh battery with which it can travel up to 180 km on one side. The EK X EV is for sale exclusively in Japan.

And this is as far as Mitsubishi’s electric car plans. At least those announced by the manufacturer itself. Despite this, we hope that the brand can add new models that are also electrified, such as the Mitsubishi Colt, which returns as a hybrid based on the Renault Clio, in the coming years.
