Mitsubishi has just revealed new details of its future plans through 2028, a roadmap that includes 16 new launches over the next five years.
If the return of the Mitsubishi Outlander to the Spanish market was confirmed yesterday, we now know new details of Mitsubishi’s future plans until 2028. In this ambitious roadmap, the Japanese manufacturer with the three diamonds has specified up to 16 new releases that will be produce in the next five years.
This medium-term strategy called “Challenge 2025” (although it goes beyond 2025), includes up to 16 new models scheduled to arrive sometime between 2023 and 2028. Among the novelties are internal combustion vehicles, hybrids and electric cars from segments as varied as urban, SUVs with five and seven seats, trucks and even minivans.
To achieve this ambitious plan to renew its product portfolio, Mitsubishi will increase its investment in R&D and expand its collaboration with the other two members of the Alliance (Renault and Nissan) with the aim of benefiting at the engineering level.
Mitsubishi’s future plans until 2028
The next 16 launches include 9 models that will have some type of electrification, of which 4 will be fully electric. Although the image at the top of this article shows most of these new covered cars, we can draw some preliminary conclusions to find out what the Japanese firm is working on for the near future.
For example, this year the arrival of the new generation of the Mitsubishi L200 (known as Triton in some markets) is expected. This model will offer heat engines, a square and muscular design, a new light signature and a cabin that confirms that it will be twinned with the Nissan Navara, with which it will share a ladder chassis.
This same platform will be used for a new pick-up passenger vehicle (PPV) that will arrive in 2025, a model that will serve as a replacement for the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (the SUV version of the L200 sold in other markets) with a design differentiated from the of the new generation truck. There will also be a new fully electric pick-up.
Other novelties include the production version of the Mitsubishi XFC Concept presented about six months ago, a model that will arrive in the spring of this year. There will also be a three-row SUV in 2025, a non-Xpander minivan, and a passenger kei car to complement the new Mitsubishi Delica.
As for novelties in the hybrid car market, the recently released Mitsubishi ASX will be joined by the already announced Mitsubishi Colt, which will be closely based on the Renault Clio. There will also be a hybrid variant of the aforementioned XPander and an electrified variant, as well as a five-seater hybrid SUV arriving in 2025 as a replacement for the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross.
And when it comes to electric cars, Mitsubishi will present four models in the coming years, including a pick-up. Two of them will derive from the Alliance, one that will be shared with Renault and another with Nissan, while the third will be a kei car for the Japanese market.
Finally, the company hopes to reach 50% of its sales with electrified cars in 2030 and, in 2035, 100%.
