As was the case with the US Open, which DAZN customers could see through Eurosport, Movistar Plus+ has once again retained the rights to a competition that until now could be seen on the sports streaming platform, this time exclusively .

DAZN continues to be so focused on LaLiga that it is beginning to have a bleeding of content that its platform broadcasts. Curiously, this situation happens at the same time that prices have just risen. With the latest loss, Movistar Plus+ practically forces its competitor to lower prices or get rid of the idea of renewing LaLiga when the time comes.

Movistar stays with the Euroleague

DAZN has focused so much on LaLiga, where it broadcasts half of the matches in 35 of the 38 days of the national football championship, that it is neglecting other competitions and sports for a platform that was called to be the nerve center of sports broadcasts.

It was already known to all that DAZN was going to lose one of its main competitions beyond football this coming season. The Euroleague, one of its main claims in recent seasons, will stop broadcasting on the OTT since it has not presented any offer to repurchase the rights package that gives access to all the matches of the highest continental basketball competition that it will defend Real Madrid, current champion.

The one who fishes in a troubled river is Movistar Plus+, who not only wants to be “El Estadio Infinito”, but also wants to be “La Cancha Infinita”, adding to its broadcasts of the NBA and the Endesa League (ACB), the main competition in Europe. With this new agreement, Movistar Plus+ recovers the three major competitions exclusively and thus reaffirms its commitment to all of basketball.

From the start of the competition on October 5, Movistar Plus+ will broadcast up to 5 matches per day, always with the broadcast of the Spanish teams (Barça, Real Madrid and Baskonia in 2023-2024) and through the Movistar Plus+ channels (dial 7), we go through M+ (dial 8) and the Sports windows through M+ (from dial 63 onwards).

Best of all, two games per matchday will be included in the new Movistar Plus+, the streaming service regardless of the operator you are from, which costs 14 euros per month and includes football (with one LaLiga and Champions League match per matchday), a movie premiere per day, original series, documentaries, La Resistencia, etc.

Tripled prices on DAZN

The commitment to LaLiga is coming out expensive for the OTT and especially for its clients. The platform is losing a lot of money with soccer rights and its plan to combat it is to raise prices. To the point that, with the last increase last month, its prices have tripled since its arrival in Spain. Until now, they were justified by the increase in content and the cost to have their rights, but in recent times what they are doing is losing large alternative competitions to the king of sports.

For example, those users who contracted DAZN to be able to enjoy tennis will also see their offer reduced. In this case, the OTT is an indirect victim. Movistar has snatched the rights to the US Open from Eurosport as of this same 2023, where to see Carlos Alcaraz we have to have Movistar Plus+.

DAZN TV

The solution for DAZN so far has been to raise prices. Already last year, with the broadcast of five LaLiga matches per day, customers saw how the price rose by up to 50% compared to the previous year, even raising the plan that does not include the competition.

With the latest restructuring of subscription plans, the inflated prices are as follows, being up to 300% compared to the original ones in Spain:

Total DAZN

  • Monthly: for €39.99 per month without permanence, instead of €29.99 per month.
  • Annual (payment in installments): for 29.99 euros per month (with a 12-month stay), instead of 24.99 euros per month.
  • Annual (payment in advance): for 349.99 euros for the whole year (you pay 29.16 euros per month), instead of 299.99 euros per year (it is as if you had paid approximately 25 euros per month).
