Netflix and Duolingo have decided to join forces to sign a collaboration that we had not seen coming. With this initiative, users of the two services will have an ideal opportunity to get the most out of it and, at the same time, have fun. As far as impossible collaborations go, we have to admit that this is one of the strangest we have ever seen.

The second season of a Netflix series that you will know very well and that you are probably looking forward to will premiere soon. This is the return of The Squid Game, the South Korean production that broke all records and became one of the biggest trends in the streaming sector. And, with the intention of celebrating this return, Duolingo and Netflix are collaborating. But how?

Do you want to learn Korean?

Netflix is going to release the return of The Squid Game and Duolingo is one of the best-known services for learning languages. Therefore, what they have decided in collaboration with Netflix is to make a space for the fiction series within their own application. And the goal is that users can learn Korean and thus be prepared to watch the episodes in their original version. Of course, it is not about learning fluent Korean, but rather about, at the very least, having knowledge of the terms that will be heard the most during the series.

Thanks to this collaboration, Duolingo users have several features inspired by the Netflix series at their disposal. On the one hand, special lessons have been added to Korean classes that aim to teach users phrases and expressions that are used in the series, but that would not normally be part of the learning. For example, you can learn phrases like “Let’s play a game” or “You’ve been eliminated”, phrases that, without a doubt, would not be normal to find predefined in a lesson to learn Korean.

Collaboration between Duolingo and The Squid Game

There is also a good range of vocabulary that has been added to the Korean lessons that is inspired by the series, including terms like “dolgana.” Learning all these terms will be a good way to connect with the series and have some knowledge of Korean, even if you may not be interested in learning the language from top to bottom.

Its availability makes a lot of sense from Duolingo’s side, since the language app has revealed that its Korean students grew by 40% since the series premiered on Netflix. And we must not forget that other Korean series are also hitting hard, while K-pop music is also triumphing around the world. With all that in mind, Duolingo is aware of the great prospect they have ahead of them thanks to a language that is increasingly popular among all types of people.

Another novelty fruit of the collaboration

Duolingo and Netflix have collaborated in another way. In this case it is the availability of a game filter on TikTok with which users can test their knowledge of Korean in a very fun way. They have to say the indicated phrases and words in Korean to survive the test and not be caught by the Duolingo mascot in the middle of the race. It is expected that, as usual, it will be a novelty that will quickly go viral on TikTok.

Duolingo app with The Squid Game

For its part, Netflix will continue with promotional activities so that the return of the series becomes a great success. For example, they have released Squid Game: The Experience and the mobile game Squid Game: Unleashed is also ready for release, which will arrive on December 17. As for the second season of The Squid Game, it can be seen from December 26.
