Windows 11 has just released an important update that not only provides security improvements, but also incorporates new features and fixes some of the recent errors. Microsoft ends the year trying to improve the experience so that users do not have any complaints with their operating system.
Yesterday we were talking about how Ubisoft had released a patch to solve some of the problems that were being suffered in Windows 11 with its games. Now it is Microsoft itself that issues an update that introduces other fixes and that helps to ensure that users can enjoy a more stable version of the platform.
It is a mandatory update
Although it is common for Microsoft to release patches and updates that can be installed or not depending on the interests of each user, in the case of this latest version it is a mandatory update. The reason for this is that it contains the latest security version of Windows 11, which means leaving your computer prepared to protect itself against any type of possible risk.
The latest update in question is numbered KB5048667 in Windows 11 24H2 and KB5048685 in Windows 11 23H2. Its installation will cause your computer to be at version 26100.2605 or 226×1.4602 respectively. In addition to providing solutions to security problems and vulnerabilities that have been recently detected, this update introduces other improvements. We have already talked to you about some of them before because they have been available in the Insider versions and we already knew that their arrival was imminent.
For example, the change has been applied to the date and time of the Task Bar so that it appears in a more minimalist way, while the bell that appeared on it no longer appears. What Microsoft wants is for you to have more space for app icons, even though there are a large number of people who prefer to have their taskbar as light as possible.
What does this new version provide?
There are changes and new features in a fairly high volume, although some are minority or related to functions that are not very widespread globally. Therefore, we are going to comment on the most relevant ones, such as the fact that we can now share files very easily with an Android device if we are using the Phone Link function. Another novelty is found in Jump Lists, jump lists that are not used very frequently, but are really useful. The latest addition is the ability to press Shift and Ctrl at the same time to be able to choose an item from the list and then open it directly as an administrator.
Additionally, the Narrator feature has been improved and the text-to-speech system has also been polished, although users will have to update their languages manually to benefit from the improvements. Something that Microsoft has polished is the display of the IME editor when you are writing in Chinese or Japanese, while at the screen level recently detected problems have been fixed, such as the lag that was caused when putting a full screen in multiple monitor configurations.
To this we must also add solving problems in the use of the mouse and in Notepad, highlighting in the latter that the error due to which, sometimes, elements were not saved has now disappeared. This happened at the time when text and images were copied at the same time, but it has finally been solved.
It is very possible that your computer will update automatically, although if you want to make sure you have this latest version as soon as possible, it is best to apply the update manually. To do this, go to Start, then Settings, and then access the Windows Update menu. Click on Check for updates and it should appear there.
