Package delivery scams continue to multiply. The last one that is circulating on the network arrives by email telling you that you have a package pending delivery. But don’t believe it! It is a scam in which they try to steal your data, a type of scam that is multiplying more and more due to the expansion of electronic commerce.

Now that it is so common to buy online, scammers are looking for ways to take advantage of it, such as exposing us to falling for this type of scam related to messaging services. Because if you are waiting for an order, you may fall for a scam if you don’t think about it a lot and simply react thinking that you want to receive it as soon as possible. In this case, what happened was with the FedEx delivery service, although according to users, this type of scam is occurring with many other courier companies.

The scam form

The email that the users who are being scammed are receiving is the following that you can see below as we have found it on Twitter. In it you will appreciate that the header already tries to create a feeling of urgency in the recipient of the message indicating “Complete the registration form as soon as possible!”. But when you receive this type of email you always have to stay calm to make sure it is a real message or if, on the contrary, it is a scam.

I don’t know if it’s a scam, but this came to my email this morning without having ordered anything. Has this happened to anyone else? @FedExHelp https://t.co/cvbA38Yfir

Following the header is a reference number of your purported package that serves as a notification. Then there are several links that they try to get you to click on to start the scam. For example, in a normal situation it would be logical to click “Track”, but with a scam like that you have to avoid it by all possible means, because you don’t know what will happen next.

After a photo where you see a father with his daughter receiving the courier package, and with which they try to make you think that you also want to feel that way, a message is included in red indicating that they have not been able to deliver the package because no one was present at the home. There is also a message in green where they indicate that you must confirm the delivery address so that the package can be delivered once more. And in that case, in addition, there is a button with a link that will refer you to the same type of scam.

To do?

Be very careful when receiving these messages. Actually, best of all, you try not to open them for any of the reasons. In some cases the email itself may include a hidden virus that infects your email program the moment you view the message. It doesn’t always happen, but it is a possibility. On the other hand, you should not click on any of the internal links in the email either. Although you do not know what the scam you are exposing yourself to will be, it is always better to avoid any type of risk.

In some cases, the page you reach with the link will ask you for your credit card information to confirm receipt of the package or to pay a minimum amount as a commission for the second shipment (or any other type of fee that are invented). In other situations, the web could already be sending you malware the moment you enter it, even without having to do any process. Therefore, it is important that you be careful and that you do not fall into the trap.

In addition, we recommend adding all addresses of this type of spam to your list of blocked emails. The scammers change their addresses a lot, but it is always better to close the doors on them. Also, if you have doubts that you have a package waiting to be delivered and they give you a tracking number, what you should do is check its existence or not on the official website of the service, be it FedEx, Correos or MRW. But never check it from the links in the email. And, on the other hand, do not forget to be up to date with the best tips to buy online safely.
