During the year 2023, Orange has managed to anticipate 80% of incidents on its network. In the coming weeks, it will incorporate a new functionality to be able to anticipate even more any unforeseen event that may cause problems among its users.

The Orange fiber network allows direct access to high-speed internet to more than 17 million homes In our country. Including both cities and towns throughout the national territory. This infrastructure is made up of the equipment deployed in the technical centers and in the customers’ own homes. In addition, a large volume of kilometers of fiber that runs through a large part of our country is also included, what is known as the External Plant.

This nomenclature refers to the fiber cables that are currently distributed within our borders. These pass through underground conduits, aerial sections supported by poles and cables in buildings. As these are passive elements that allow us to monitor them, anticipating any incident can be especially complex. However, the orange company seems to have found the solution by relying on Artificial Intelligence. Minimizing any possible problems among your clients.

Preventive Maintenance

When any incident occurs in the fiber network, the prejudice for the users of the contracted service can be notable. Even more so if it lasts for several hours and there are network outages that prevent the performance of our daily tasks. To respond to this challenge, Orange has developed its own intelligent model that allows, through Artificial Intelligence, to plan different predictive maintenance activities, even before any incident occurs.

To achieve this, it has developed the Vigía platform with Applus. Thanks to this new monitoring system, Orange has managed to anticipate the 80% of External Plant incidents throughout the year 2023. Activating maintenance schedules even before the client has experienced any incident in the contracted service.

Vigía allows you to analyze the available information of the entire installation, make any diagnosis in real time and, at the moment when certain conditions occur that require immediate technical attention, Create work orders for technical service to travel to the affected area. All this without there being any report from the client regarding the malfunction of the network.

Future updates

As we have already anticipated, the results obtained during 2023 have been more than satisfactory. The system developed by the operator has managed to act preventively in eight out of ten incidents. However, the company has also taken the opportunity to announce that in the coming weeks a new functionality will be included that will allow predicting future incidents through the incorporation of neural networks in Vigía.

As soon as it detects anomalous fluctuations, it will relate them to the relevant variables and, once detect certain elements, You will be able to predict future failures and the probability of their occurrence.
