International Women’s Day has been chosen by the Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) to publicize the name of the Best Car in the World, and the one that has received the most votes has been the Peugeot 308. This very special date has been chosen because, in the case of this jury, its priority objective is to make visible the role of women both as drivers and professionals within the automobile industry.
a car for everyone
Since it was born twelve years ago, the WWCOTY annually chooses a car not only for women, but for drivers from all over the world, regardless of age, gender, race, religion or nationality. The WWCOTY Best Car of the Year is simply that, the best, without further connotations and according to the expert opinion of 56 motoring journalists from 40 countries on five continents.
To choose the top winner, the WWCOTY juries assess aspects such as quality/price ratio, safety, efficiency, respect for the environment and performance, among others.
The Peugeot 308 has had to compete with strong rivals, the best cars in their categories: Kia Sportage (Best Family SUV), BMW iX (Best Large SUV), Ford Mach-E (Best Family Car), Audi e-tron GT ( Best Sports Car) and the Jeep Wrangler 4xe (Best 4×4), all chosen from a total of 65 new models launched on at least two continents between January 1 and December 31, 2021. The votes have been audited by the consultancy Grant Thornton, from his office in Auckland, New Zealand.
The most valued of the Peugeot 308
“This year’s voting has been closer than ever,” explained Marta García, executive president of WWCOTY. Finally, the balance has tipped towards the Peugeot 308, a compact model, for everyone, which in my opinion as a Spanish jury, “offers advanced technology, good dynamic behavior and a wide range of engines, including two plug-in hybrid variants”.
