The Google TV Streamer has arrived to replace Chromecast, but is it worth the change? For some, the answer will be a resounding yes, but in my case, after analyzing it thoroughly, I have decided that I will not make the jump. I will tell you why.
Google has decided to leave the Chromecast behind and bet on the new Google TV Streamer. But, seeing if it is worth making the leap and after analyzing it thoroughly, I have come to the conclusion that I prefer to keep my chromect. If you want to know why, stay in this post in which I analyze the reasons.
A change that does not convince at all
Google has taken a turn with its new Streamer TV, betting on a box instead of the reasons that stop me to make the Chromecast jump to Google TV Streamerdiseño compact of Chromecast. It is now more powerful, has more storage and has new integrations with artificial intelligence. However, not everything is as positive as it seems.
First, the Google TV Streamer arrives with a price of € 99, placing it near more complete devices such as the Apple TV 4K or even some high -end Fire TV options. And although it has improvements, it also presents limitations that can make some users wait before making the jump.
Reasons that move me away from Google TV Streamer
Despite the improvements of Google TV Streamer, there are three key factors that stop me when changing device. These are the main ones:
- It does not offer a real advantage over Chromecast: yes, it has more storage and better hardware, but in the day to day, the experience of use is not radically different. Chromecast with Google TV already allowed access to the same applications, reproduce in 4K and have HDR support. So why pay more for something than, in practice, does not change too much?
- The streaming ecosystem is key: the Google TV Streamer is a good option if you are already involved in the Google ecosystem, but if you have subscriptions on Apple TV, Fire TV or Roku, changing platform implies losing integrations and advantages. For me, staying in the ecosystem in which I am already more comfortable and profitable.
- Not all functions are well implemented: one of the points that Google has highlighted is the integration with artificial intelligence through Gemini, its new assistant. However, its implementation is still in an initial phase and, according to the tests, it does not provide a clear differential value. In addition, some users have reported problems with surround sound configuration and compatibility with certain devices.
As you can see, there are several reasons that make me not compensate for me to go to the new Google TV Streamer
Is it worth waiting?
If you already have a chromect with Google TV, my advice is to wait. Google could launch future updates or improved models with more functions and better optimization. Meanwhile, Chromecast remains a solution more than valid for most users. If you do not have any streaming device, then it can be a good option, but in that case, you would also recommend taking a look at alternatives such as the Fire TV Stick 4K or the Apple TV 4K, which offer similar characteristics to competitive prices.
In short, Google TV Streamer is a good device, but it is not a revolutionary leap against Chromecast. If you already have one, it may be better to wait before making the change.
