Samsung Smart TVs say goodbye to this Google app

Samsung Smart TVs once again lose another Google application. Just a week ago we learned that its assistant was going to no longer be available on this brand’s smart televisions. And the truth is that the escape of Google functions and apps from the South Korean manufacturer seems not to have ended.

This time it is Google Meet, the technology giant’s video calling app. This app joined the Samsung television family since 2021. However, it must be taken into account as details that the brand’s new models from 2024 no longer come with this application. In any case, starting in March it will close its app completely on the Tizen operating system, all with the aim of focusing on Android TV-Google TV, or at least that’s what it seems.

Without Google Meet in Tizen

If you have a Samsung Smart TV with Google Meet already installed at the factory, you may have received a notification warning you that starting next month you will no longer be able to use this app. To be more exact, it will stop working on Samsung’s Tizen from March 9, 2024. Why? From what it seems, Google wants to focus only on its TV operating system: Google TV and Android TV. Although, it is clear that it is not a relationship problem, and even more so when both brands have collaborated hand in hand to launch Samsung’s latest smartphone with AI functions.

And it not only affects Smart TVs launched between 2021 and 2023, but also smart monitors (7000 series and later editions). Hence, this year’s new Samsung smart TVs no longer come with the video calling application installed.

Google Meet

If you have still received the notification from us, please note that it is received within the application itself on your smart TV. Although, the notice to users began on February 9. However, if you already have a camera and want to continue making video calls from your Samsung Smart TV, the manufacturer will offer another series of alternatives to Google Meet to its users.

Besides, it is not the only farewell at Samsung. Google Assistant will stop working on TVs with Tizen starting next March 1. So, in just a few days, you will no longer have the opportunity to use the Google Assistant. As an alternative, you have Alexa or Bixby. What is clear is that there are already different applications from the technology giant that will abandon the South Korean manufacturer’s televisions.

On the other hand, it is not the only bad news of the day for Samsung users. If you were using a Ring Doorbell Pro on your smart TV until now, unfortunately it will no longer be compatible soon. Until now you could connect to the SmartThings application on your mobile and then control it from the TV. The problem is that Samsung models between 2018 and 2021 have stopped being compatible since February 13. So it will only work for models from 2022 onwards.
