Great news for anime lovers. One of the series that was most requested to be available on streaming has finally reached a platform. And the best of all is that it is now completely available in Spanish. It is one of the biggest hits of the 90s with a total of 161 episodes.
The streaming sector still has a lot of work to do in Spain to catch up with the availability of classics. There are many series that we remember from our childhood, but that we still do not have easily accessible. Now, luckily, one title has been crossed off that long list.
Rank 1/2 from start to finish
Finally we have the opportunity to once again enjoy the adventures of Ranma Saotome, one of the most iconic characters of the 90s. His series was a success in Spain, where it was broadcast at a time when, as otakus will remember, the anime was frequent on the small screen. Now the series has been recovered in streaming by the AnimeBox service, which already has it complete so you can watch it from beginning to end or relive your favorite episodes.
Thanks to this type of classics, this streaming service, which is becoming known step by step, is beginning to gain more relevance among those who want to relive past times. Because it is obvious that Ranma ½ is part of the great history of anime in Spain just as other series such as Dragon Ball, Knights of the Zodiac, Oliver and Benji or Sailor Moon do, among many others.
161 episodes of combats and love affairs
Ranma ½, a series created by the veteran Rumiko Takahashi, author of other legendary works such as Maison Ikkoku or Inuyasha, told the story of the Saotome, who after suffering a terrible curse, move to live with the Tendo family. That’s where Ranma meets Akane, at which point the sparks of a relationship fly that, episode after episode, will not fail to keep viewers on edge. Dozens of characters appear around these two protagonists, all of them with absolutely unsurpassed charisma and madness. From Shampoo, the girl who transforms into a cat, to Kuno, the skilled kendo fighter who only thinks about Akane and the mysterious “girl with the braid.”
One of the great virtues of Ranma ½ is its efficient combination of romance, humor and action with a pace that makes each episode fly by. Furthermore, the stories are very well woven and are always so ridiculously absurd that it is impossible not to end up laughing more than once. Still, at the same time, and within the surreality of some moments in the series, the anime reflects well many of the fundamental elements of Japanese culture and life in the country. In a way, the author takes advantage of her crazy universe to criticize some traditions, such as the excess of rules that some institutes still have today.
The only negative thing that can be said is that Ranma ½, as much as it was one of the great hits of the 90s, was never finished in its animated version. He ended up in episode 161 after Ranma ran into one of the most important people in his life. We remember those episodes from their television broadcast and there is no doubt that they were very emotional. But, later, the series did not return. It was unthinkable for an anime that had generated thousands of derivative products and even had tons of video games. The series was so famous that one of its Super Nintendo games came to our country even at a time when anime games did not usually have distribution (only the important ones, like Dragon Ball).
However, the Ranma ½ anime ran into several problems. The first: the series reached the publication of the manga and the production company had to decide whether to invent filler stories or leave it in the air for a long period of time. Neither of the two options pleased those responsible for what it could mean. The second: the company that carried out its development was in a critical economic situation and, in the end, they withdrew from the business.
Luckily, all 161 episodes are now available for you to watch and laugh with all the crazy characters that make up the Ranma universe. Which was your favorite?
