Halloween is approaching and we all want to watch horror movies. But, at this point, there are so many that it is sometimes difficult to choose. Below, we talk about the 100 best and, in addition, we tell you which streaming platforms you can watch them on. You are going to see the best scary cinema you can imagine!

A few days ago Variety, one of the most respected media in the world of Hollywood cinema, published its list of the best 100 horror films in history. The list was prepared by a group of critics and film specialists who have managed to unify the best of the seventh art dedicated to fear and terror. Their list is what we take as a reference for this guide. Keep in mind that not all the movies in the top 100 are available in Spain in streaming, at least at this time. And, to start, we are going to give you the top 10, so as not to make you wait and get to the point. Then we include the complete list with the 100 films.

Top 10

The first position is occupied by The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a classic from 1974 that must be recognized as holding up just as well as in its time and that has perfectly stood the test of time. It portrays an evil, violent, ruthless character, who only wants to kill and who, furthermore, does it with special harshness and cruelty. The way in which he hunts down the film’s characters has transcended time and has ensured that the film continues to be among mandatory viewings for lovers of the genre. At the same time, the essence of the film remains terrifying.

In second position is The Exorcist, the original, the film that many people refused to see because of the religious connotations it had. It became a milestone, both for the scene of the possessed girl and for the dialogues, the soundtrack or that flash that the film has and that manages to terrify those who see it for the first time. Everything in this movie instills a fear that never goes out of style.

The third film on the top is Psycho, the story of Norman Bates that, taking advantage of the virtues of Alfred Hitchcock, transmits an increasing terror. What begins as a slow plot in which you don’t expect to end up living a nightmare, gradually becomes more complicated and scares the viewer. A masterpiece.

We reach fourth position with Jaws, which does not need any type of introduction and is also essential at all levels. For its part, the fifth film in the top 100 is The Devil’s Seed, in its original version from 1968, which with a duration of over two hours made history. To finish the top 10, the next films on the list are Night of the Living Dead, Audition, Doctor Frankenstein, Saló or the 120 Days of Sodom and Carrie.

Do you miss a lot of movies? We would say quite a few! It is noticeable that at Variety they have gone for the most classic cinema and have left some that are essential. For example, we would put REC as mandatory and also more than one of the recent horror films that have set trends. Anyway, everything is debatable. The good news is that, although they are classics, as you can see, they have good availability in our country.
