Who said hydrogen cars had to be boring? Luckily, the thought that cars powered by alternative energies were mere “washing machines with wheels” was left behind for a long time, but from time to time brands take it upon themselves to remind us of their possibilities. The latest example of this is the Toyota Mirai Sport Concept.
Its name makes it clear that for the moment it is a prototype, but it is still interesting that Toyota is exploring ways to enhance the sportiness of its, for the moment, only model powered by hydrogen, the Toyota Mirai.
It has not been officially presented yet, but the brand took it to the Fuji 24 Hours of the Super Taikyu Series that were held in Japan a few days ago, where it was possible to keep an eye on it.
It makes its sportier approach clear through its design, since it mounts a specific body kit that gives it a little more aggressiveness. There is a black piece between the optical groups, the bumper changes completely and presents three fine slits, and in the lower part it incorporates a grill with a diamond pattern.
In the side view, the most striking are the 21-inch wheels, but it should also be noted that the suspension has been lowered by 20 millimeters. At the rear, the modifications are subtle, with a small spoiler and a sporty diffuser.
What absolutely nothing is known about is its mechanical section, so we do not know if it has been used to enhance it or if (which would be a bit disappointing) it maintains the same performance as the standard Mirai, which develops 185 CV of power and 300 Nm of torque, in addition to homologating a range of 647 kilometers.
We will have to wait to see if the Toyota Mirai Sport Concept remains a mere prototype or if we will see a street version inspired by it.
