The DGT changes its way of notifying fines, where you should register your company now to find out

Write down these three letters: DEV

There is little left for Traffic to stop sending notifications on paper and bet on a one hundred percent telematic system for sending fines to legal entities. We tell you where you should register your company to be aware of the DGT sanctions.

On November 1, the extension approved by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) ends so that all companies are registered in the Electronic Road Directorate (DEV). This means that, from the first day of November, all legal entities must have telematic communications activated, since the postal route disappears for them.

The measure is not new and although there are many companies that are caught by surprise, the truth is that it was issued in 2016. It was six years ago when the obligation was imposed for all legal entities to be registered with the DEV. They had time to do it: from then until November 1, 2022.

Road Electrical Directorate (DEV)

The deadline now expires and in a few days no traffic fine associated with a company vehicle will be communicated by post.

The Electronic Road Address or DEV is an electronic mailbox created so that vehicle owners can receive communications and notifications electronically. Its use is not limited to companies; any private driver can register and be informed of the fines in this way.

From the DGT they insist that the telematic sending of fines has “the same legal effects as paper notifications”. Companies must, therefore, be attentive to the DEV to know the existence of fines and thus be able to exercise their right to prompt payment (with a 50% discount on the sanctions imposed).

When they have any notification, they will receive an alert by SMS or email.

How to register with the DEV

From November 1, for legal persons (companies) only the telematic route will be maintained; for natural persons (private drivers) both options will be offered. However, they are incompatible, that is, those private drivers who register with the DEV will no longer receive notifications on paper (remember here that the DGT never notifies sanctions by mail).

Signing up for DEV is very simple. All you have to do is access the home link of the official page and press the “Access Registration in the DEV” button. Then you just have to fill in the form indicating the email address or mobile phone number where the alerts will be received.

All DEV inquiries and communications are carried out with a digital certificate or electronic DNI.

It is important to note that, whether accepted or not, all DEV notifications expire after 10 days. After that time, the period of 20 calendar days begins to initiate the following procedures, which are either to pay the fine with a discount or to appeal the sanction by presenting the corresponding allegations.
