All the public administrations of a country warn of the importance of being well documented. And it is that leaving home without the wallet where you have at least your ID can be decisive at any time, especially if the authorities ask you to. But in these times the cards are something that are already dispensable for having them on your mobile. This is what is being worked on in Europe with new rules for using mobile phones as an electronic identification system.

It is a system with which it is easier for a person not to get lost and take with them everything they need to be perfectly identified. Of course, this new measure brings with it a more extensive regulation of electronic standards to verify a person’s identity. In addition, it will be very useful for faster access to all kinds of procedures that you need to do.

Always connected and identified

We have spent years witnessing the continuous changes in the way in which a person builds their identity on the Internet. At first, only a couple of pieces of information were requested, such as a username or email and a password, but now everything is much more complex. In fact, they even ask you for a physical identification to prove that you are a real person, so it is no longer only what you write that is recorded, but also your biometric data.

The European Union continues to fight for responsible use of the data that you provide to companies in order to use their services, but even the political body has its own interests for its fellow citizens. And it is not an easy task to establish rules so that everyone can feel safe carrying an ID on their mobile phone.

For that, you must go through some integration phases so that your mobile serves not only to connect to different services, but also to be an official identification element at the same time that it also serves to locate you if necessary.

Europe seeks to provide security rather than implement an electronic ID

Although it is true that the arrival of an electronic DNI is imminent, there is still a lot of work to be done before that moment arrives. And it is that one of the key points is to guarantee the security of all this sensitive data of all the users who live in their geographical space.

This task cannot be done alone and for this reason it will depend on third parties to achieve its objective. One of these allies is the VU firm, which is familiar with the cybersecurity of digital identity. Thanks to the use of machine learning, the company believes that it is capable of keeping criminals at bay while looking for a way for users to use their mobile instead of ID to identify themselves at any time and speed up more than a procedure.

This will still take time to arrive, since the process is not easy at all and there is still a long way to go before Europe is ready. In fact, its implementation is expected to be gradual to the point that by 2030 at least 80% of the population will be enjoying these possibilities and with full assurance that their data is well protected.
