It’s been some time now that it’s been said that there will be pay-per-use on the highways, well, the first paid highway is already active.
It has not been the Government of the country that has already launched this payment, but rather the first toll road in our country corresponds to the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.
The highway that already has a fee is the A-636 in the 15.5-kilometre section between Beasain and Bergara, known as the Deskarga highway, and it works by electronic payment.
Obviously there are no payment booths but a license plate reader system, in a system known as Free Flow, free flow, which prevents vehicles from stopping to pay.
The payment method for residents is made through a Vía-T type device called Abiatu from the Bidegi company, which must be registered with bank details.
The first toll road is already active and is located in Guipuzkoa
For non-residents and occasional drivers, there is a second method in which you have to access the Bidegi website, register and link your vehicle’s license plate to a credit card.
But what happens if you don’t register? In this case, the data of the credit card used to pay a highway toll in the previous 4 hours will be taken.
And in the event that the user has accessed the highway directly from a road, so there will be no information on any card, an informative circular will be sent announcing the payment to be made.
If the driver does not pay the requested amount within a certain period, then the corresponding fine will be sent.
Cars pay 2.53 euros for this 15-kilometre section, while for heavy transport this amount is 4.11 euros.
And the motorcycles? Well, this is the good news because, at the moment, motorcycles are exempt from payment, so if you travel to the Basque Country, for the time being, you will not have to pay to use the motorways.
