The price of diesel not only continues its downward trend, but also widens the gap with respect to gasoline.
The price of fuels maintains the downward trend of the last few weeks, despite the fact that the same problems that caused them to become more expensive continue, mostly due to the war in Ukraine, which is one year old today. The price of diesel continues to fall and remains below gasoline.
Today marks the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine, after the invasion by Russia. Since then, the price of fuel has been completely inflated and we have normalized paying rates that previously seemed outrageous to us.
This event (along with other factors) marked the beginning of an extraordinary rise in fuel prices, which reached its all-time high in June, when a liter of gasoline 95 reached an average cost of 2,152 euros in Spain and diesel 2,106 euros. .
In 2022 we also witnessed a spectacular increase in the price of diesel, the price of which exceeded that of gasoline and remained that way for many months, practically until a few weeks ago.
The price of diesel continues to fall and remains below gasoline
This anomaly, that of the price of diesel over gasoline, came to an end this February and against all the forecasts that predicted an increase in the price of diesel as of February 5, when the new sanctions against Russia for part of the European Union.
Sanctions that basically consisted of stopping buying petroleum products. Let’s remember that the European Union stopped buying Russian oil last year. Now, veto the refining products. (Here we explain the three reasons why diesel is once again cheaper than gasoline).
After several weeks, the downward trend continues and the price of diesel continues to fall. According to dieselogasolina.com, the liter of diesel is paid on average at 1,593 euros, while gasoline 95 is at 1,639 euros/liter on average.
On the other hand, 98-octane gasoline rises, which today stands at 1.812 euros/liter, as well as A+ diesel, which is close to 1.70 euros (1.694 euros/liter) on average.
As we see, the current price of diesel not only continues its downward trend, but also increases the gap with respect to gasoline.
More expensive than before the war
In any case, the price of gasoline and diesel continues to be more expensive than before the start of the war in Ukraine, just one year ago.
Specifically, the pumps in Spain reflect similar figures to the first weeks of March 2022, before the Government approved the 20 cent discount that came into force at the end of March and was maintained until December 31.
As of January 1, 2023, drivers no longer benefit from this bonus, except for some professionals, so gasoline is once again very expensive, compared to previous years. This inevitably forces you to look for that gas station where it is cheaper to fill the tank.
