It is an open secret, it is more than a mere rumor. And it is that the Yamaha R9 could arrive in 2024, according to some information that comes from Japan.
It would be a sports model, in the style of the Yamaha R7, which would be animated by the 888 cc CP3 three-cylinder engine of the Yamaha MT-09. At the moment, only a few renders have appeared to illustrate the possible new Japanese sports car, inspired by the R7. About the name, there is no doubt: it will be called R9, an acronym that has already been registered by the brand. In this way, it would complete a staggered sports range that goes from 125 cc to 1,000 cc.
In addition, it must be taken into account that with the implementation of the Euro 5 anti-pollution regulations, the Yamaha YZF-R6 has stopped being sold for the street. This has left a significant gap between the R7 and the R1. That is to say, between the 73 CV of maximum power of the first, and the almost 200 CV of the second.
As it happened with the R7 with respect to the MT-07, we expect changes in geometries and suspensions to give the R9 greater stability, especially at high speed.
With the possible R9 and its 119 CV of maximum power from the Yamaha MT-09, the gap would be covered.
To this logical idea, it is also added that in the first week of August 2021 Yamaha applied for the registration of the R9 name for all the countries of the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, while for the Philippines it was registered as YZF-R9… White and bottled?
It seems that what many followers of the Iwata brand long for will end up being defined in a future Yamaha R9 in 2024.
