What if there was a type of content that you may be playing on Netflix that has the ability to damage your Smart TV? Surely you want to know what it is so you can take it into account to reduce your exposure to this type of risk as much as possible. Below, we explain it to you.

It would be logical to imagine that all the content available on Netflix is harmless. Who is going to think that something we can see on television might end up damaging it? Of course, it is not as easy as it sounds, but there is some risk to take into account.

Beware of Netflix fireplaces

Can you imagine that by playing videos like the ones about fireplaces that are available on Netflix, you are going to expose yourself to this type of risk on your screen? It sounds completely crazy. The reality is that, as we are going to explain to you, they are indeed harmful. However, this does not happen with all Smart TV models, but only with those that use OLED technology.

Different options to watch fireplaces on Netflix

But as you probably already know, there are dozens of OLED televisions sold in Spain, so it could be that you also have one of them. These screens are at risk of an image burn-in problem that can occur with certain images.

They are pretty, but dangerous

First of all, several important things must be said. To start, you won’t experience any problems on your television if you play the fireplace video during an afternoon or evening. Surely nothing will happen to your television if you use it two or three times. The danger comes when we abuse its playback and have the video almost constantly on the screen. And this, although it may sound a little strange, can become something common.

The main reason for this is the image technology provided by OLED panels. Although sensitive, its pixels activate in a way where the glow of the fireplace conveys a high level of realism. This leads to people who have been fooled by this type of video and who do not hesitate to have them played permanently to create an atmosphere in their instances. Because they really give the sensation of being authentic fireplaces, so, except for the lack of warmth, the atmosphere with its sound and the glow of the fire is created effectively.

On the other hand, it must be said that there are many types of fireplace videos and not all of them are on Netflix. However, the problem occurs with most of them. In some cases, especially if you have unsubscribed from Netflix, it is more common to play them on YouTube, so you have to keep in mind that the risk exists in the same way regardless of the source where you found the fireplace.

The main problem with the fireplace is the way in which they concentrate most of the brightness in the same area of the screen. This causes the pixels that are responsible for lighting to turn on and off constantly and their consumption rate accelerates at a high speed compared to the rest of the pixels, which will possibly be off or with very little light. That would lead us to an area of the screen ending up affected, suffering from this burning of the image and then the luminosity of all the pixels would never be homogeneous again. In other words, your Smart TV would be damaged and the consequence of this would be noticeable every time you tried to watch a movie or any other type of content.

A wood burning fireplace burning at night

Netflix has a large number of fireplace videos, such as those corresponding to the Fireplace in your home section, while it also includes some personalized ones with different themes. Thus, you can even find a fireplace inspired by the world of The Witcher. However, although they are a type of content that is very pleasant, as we indicated, it is preferable that, if you have an OLED Smart TV, you do not leave the digital fireplace on all night. Because, if you are careless, your house won’t burn down, but your television will.

To reduce the risk volume when you do use the fireplace, it is preferable that you configure the Cinema mode of your television, set the brightness level to a maximum of 30% and also leave the television connected to the light when not in use. This will allow your OLED panel to compensate and thus maintain its performance at the highest level for as long as possible.
