In recent times, the sentences against pirated IPTV services are escalating in amount. After several months of judicial process, the person in charge of All Access TV and Quality Restreams has been forced to pay a financial fine of 30 million dollars, more than 27 million euros.
Dwayne Anthony Johnson, the operator of these pirate IPTV sites, had been one of the most conceited and I thought there was going to be no way to prove who was responsible for these services, but justice has finally been done.
ACE celebrates a sentence of 30 million
By now we know about the tireless efforts of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the world’s leading anti-piracy coalition. That is why it is only natural that they celebrate such important rulings as the one handed down recently against Dwayne Anthony Johnson, the operator of the pirate IPTV websites All Access TV and Quality Restreams.
A United States District Court judge, Andre Birotte Jr., recently handed down a ruling in favor of the owners of the violated audiovisual rights (including large studios and streaming platforms). As a result, Birotte has sentenced Johnson to the irreversible closure of his pirate IPTV websites, as well as a fine and compensation of 30 million dollars (27.69 million euros in exchange).
With such a ruling, it is normal for ACE to be celebrating, as the statement they have issued shows. “Today’s favorable ruling against the owner of a commercial-scale digital piracy operation marks an important step forward in our fight against global piracy. We are pleased with the $30 million award and the order prohibiting the defendant from further distribution of films and television series without authorization,” said Aaron Wais, senior vice president and head of global litigation for the Motion Picture Association.
Massive lawsuit against these pirated IPTV
The court ruling is the result of a long legal process that began in December 2021, when companies such as Universal, Disney, Paramount, Warner and Columbia joined Netflix, Amazon, Apple and other studios in a lawsuit against Dwayne Anthony Johnson as responsible. from a service called AllAccessTV (AATV), and another platform called Quality Restreams.
These services have been sued for offering access to movies and series through a platform with IPTV channels and video on demand. The company was trying to impersonate a VPN service called VPN Safe Vault LLC, but it is actually a pirated IPTV platform.
The plaintiff studios requested that the $150,000 per infringed work be paid, which is what is usually paid in these cases. Finally they have achieved a total amount of 30 million, which gives an idea of the enormous amount of audiovisual works violated.
