The best time to go on vacation with the car and avoid traffic at Easter is the one that is outside the rush hours of departure from the big cities.
Easter is here and, therefore, one of the times of the year in which more trips take place. There are those who decide to take a few days off and those who go to the main Spanish capitals where processions are held, such as Seville or Valladolid. You must pay maximum attention behind the wheel, so we tell you what is the best time to go on vacation with the car.
As every year, the DGT is going to launch the Special Easter Week Operation to monitor the movement of vehicles on the main Spanish roads and highways, a device that will be increased for Holy Thursday, which is when more displacements are expected.
To do this, Traffic will deploy all the means at its disposal, such as patrol cars, hundreds of cameras, camouflaged vehicles and drones, as well as helicopters and, of course, hundreds of radars (here we show you the DGT radars, province to province).
This is the best time to go on vacation with the car at Easter
The best time to go on vacation with the car and avoid traffic at Easter is the one that is outside the rush hours of departure from the big cities. This entails better planning our trip, because it may even be necessary to ask for one more day of vacation to leave the day before the departure operation.
Whenever possible for work reasons, it is preferable to leave between 9:00 and 14:00 on Friday of Dolores. Thus, you will be able to circulate more calmly and take advantage of part of the day when you arrive at your destination.
Another option is to go out tonight. The main drawback is that you have to wait until the bulk of the drivers have left and that you will arrive late at your destination, especially if it is a long trip, but, in return, you will find the roads and highways emptier.
In the same way, it is preferable to avoid going out on Holy Thursday itself, which is when displacements will increase considerably, since it is when the great days of Holy Week begin in many cities and towns in Spain, as well as on public holidays.
Starting on Holy Thursday
It is best to go out on Holy Wednesday applying the same logic as we have said before: avoid rush hours, that is, go out between 9:00 and 14:00 or at night, around 21:00.
If you cannot leave on Holy Wednesday, another option to avoid traffic jams is to leave at dawn on Holy Thursday, before sunrise and calculating the time according to the distance you have to travel to reach your destination before rush hour, that is, between 10:00 and 16:00. Or the same Holy Thursday afternoon, even if it means losing almost the entire day.
In short, before going on vacation with the car at Easter, we must plan our trip well to avoid the most conflictive moments where there is a greater influx of vehicles. The ideal is to leave before 2:00 p.m. whenever possible.
