This is the place on the car where the DGT recommends placing the label to avoid fines in the new ZBE

If you place it wrong, 200 euros fine.

2023 has brought with it the implementation of 149 new LEZs (at least theoretically, since in practice many of them are not yet ready or activated). This means that many drivers begin to be affected by them, so they have to take certain factors into account, such as where to place the DGT label.

The truth is that the law does not oblige to place the label, at least in general terms, although some municipalities can choose it, but it is advisable to avoid possible problems when accessing the Low Emission Zones. Of course, putting it is where you can generate a problem and a fine.

And it is that in the same way that the ITV sticker must go in the upper right corner of the windshield, the environmental label must be placed in the lower right corner of it.

The reason? It is not specific to environmental labels, it is due to the regulations that sanction the placement of anything that may impede or hinder the driver’s visibility. This is considered a serious offense and carries a fine of 200 euros.

However, it is enough to have two fingers in front and place it where it should be, which is also where it is least annoying, to avoid having to go through the cashier.

Finally, let’s remember the four types of environmental labels:

  • Label B: gasoline cars registered between January 2001 and 2005 and diesel cars registered between January 2006 and August 2015

  • Label C: gasoline cars registered from January 2006 and diesel cars registered from September 2015

  • ECO label: hybrid cars with an electric range of less than 40 kilometers

  • Zero Label: plug-in hybrid cars with more than 40 kilometers of autonomy, pure electric cars and hydrogen cars

The fifth group in contention are cars with an A label or without a DGT label, gasoline cars prior to 2001 and diesel cars prior to 2006, which are the ones that are generally prohibited from entering any Low Emission Zone.
