The consumer organization OCU denounces that the energy companies put many obstacles to hire it

Write down these acronyms: TUR. It is the Regulated Gas Rate, the formula that consumer associations advise hiring before winter arrives. But it seems that it is not easy.

TUR stands for Last Resort Rate. It is the formula recommended by experts from associations such as the OCU because they say it will be the one that will get the lowest prices in the coming weeks.

Why the TUR is the best rate for gas

The conditions of this rate are set by the Ministry. It is, therefore, the equivalent of the regulated price rate (PVPC) for the electricity market.

With respect to this formula, the Government does not establish a specific price, but the formula with which the price will be set in each review. The price of the TUR is reviewed quarterly (in January, April, July and October).

Gas

How much does gas cost with the TUR

Experts are convinced that in the coming months the TUR will be much more competitive than any rate on the free market.

Current prices are as follows:

Rate Annual consumption (gas year) Fixed term price (€/month) Consumption price (€/kWh)
RL.1 Up to 5,000 kWh/year 5.03 0.06355
RL.2 Between 5,000 and 15,000 kWh/ year 9.52 0.0607
RL.3 Between 15,000 and 50,000 kWh/year 20.54 0.05853

According to the calculations made by the OCU, for an average home that uses gas for heating and has a consumption of 9,000 kWh, the annual cost of the TUR rate will be 723 euros. However, for the same supply and conditions, the best of the free market rates will have an annual cost of 1,516 euros.

Hire the TUR

Not all electricity and gas marketers can offer the TUR. But yes, all consumers can request it as long as they have a consumption of less than 50,000 kWh.

The Last Resort Rate can only be contracted with four marketers. The following table shows what they are, who they belong to and their contact telephone numbers.

Reference trading company Cluster Telephone
Regulated Marketer Gas&Power Naturgy Group 900 813 527
21st Energy Endesa Group 800 760 333
Curenergy Iberdrola Group 900 100 309

The problem denounced by the consumer association is that in recent weeks the marketers have been putting up many obstacles for consumers to switch to the TUR rate, which offers a cheaper price for natural gas.

The OCU has carried out a study trying to contact the four vendors that offer the Last Resort Rate and have found that waiting times are longer than 30 minutes, that calls are cut off and that, in many cases, They indicate that only online contracting is allowed, which does not usually work either.
