The Toyota Yaris is one of the least expensive cars on the market, a versatile utility vehicle that stands out for its hybrid propulsion system and its DGT ECO label. Searching the used market is a simple and cheap way to get one, but how much does a second-hand Toyota Yaris cost and what generation is most interesting?
The Toyota is a tremendously popular model and the used market is full of copies. There are over 1,000 units available with a plethora of conditions and mileages, so let’s break them down generation by generation.
First generation second-hand Toyota Yaris
The first generation of the Toyota Yaris has a testimonial presence among second-hand cars, there are hardly any units and due to its age (1999 – 2005) they are not highly recommended.
We are talking about a time when it was still a non-electrified model, so it does not enjoy a remarkable environmental label, it has low powers and they move between mileages of 60,000 to 300,000 kilometers. Of course, they are the cheapest on the second-hand market, with prices ranging between 1,500 and 5,000 euros.
Second generation second hand Toyota Yaris
With its first relay, the Yaris gained more popularity (although there are not many copies of this generation either), it adopted an image that is more recognizable today and grew slightly. Of course, it continued to be offered exclusively with thermal engines (something logical, since we are still talking about between 2006 and 2011).
The offer is fairly evenly distributed between the 90 hp diesel engine and the 101 hp gasoline engine, in general terms it is possible to find units with less running (from 30,000 to over 250,000 kilometers) and, yes, their prices go up one rung: from 3,000 to 9,000 euros.
Second-hand Toyota Yaris third generation
It is from the third generation when the second-hand Toyota Yaris gets really interesting and that is where it incorporated its hybrid mechanics, which implies an ECO label, freedom of movement and more adjusted consumption.
It presents a more refined image than its predecessors and grew again, so it is a more versatile model. In addition, it constitutes the vast majority of copies of the model on the second-hand market (practically 80%) so it is easy to find a unit that suits your tastes.
The most recommended option, due to the above, is the hybrid (100 hp and a third of the offer), but since it is more expensive, some buyers may prefer to opt for the traditional thermal options: the 90 hp diesel is the option of diesel and between the gasoline the offer is distributed in an equitable way between the versions of 70 and 110 CV.
It is not surprising that we talk about higher rates, which start at 6,000 euros and can reach up to 17,000 euros.
Fourth generation second-hand Toyota Yaris
The current model is the most advanced Yaris in history, with a much more muscular design and rounded shapes that distance it from its predecessor. In addition, it is only available as a hybrid with 116 CV of power and approves a consumption of 3.8 l/100 kilometers.
It is, therefore, the most interesting option of the entire legacy of the model, but, as is logical, it is also the most expensive available on the second-hand market: between 15,000 and 21,000 euros.
This is because there are very few for sale and their condition is practically new. Those that accumulate the most use hardly reach 30,000 kilometers and a large part of the copies available directly are 0 km cars that are actually brand new.
Also, keep in mind that currently it is also possible to find both Toyota Yaris Cross (the SUV version) and Toyota GR Yaris (the sports version) second-hand, but they are specific models with higher prices and very different concepts.
