This is the NIO EL7, not to be confused with the ET7, which is the saloon.
This is the NIO EL7, another Chinese car with good quality and that is going to give people talk. This is the NIO EL7, not to be confused with the ET7, which is the saloon. As you can see, it is an SUV, and although both are based on the same platform and have similar names, they are very different. The brand describes this EL7 as a mid-size SUV, while the ET7 is a saloon in the upper segment. They have a bigger SUV, but not for our market at the moment. At the moment we have this, the second model of the Chinese brand, and we are going to test it thoroughly.
And this is the NIO key: we have a button to close it, to open the gate and to open the car, which is when it shows us the graph of its LED daytime running lights. They are very torn headlights that we know from the sedan, and they remind me a bit of the front of the Hyundai Kona. This will be the face of the Nio family, just like this elaborate shark’s nose, although surely what is calling your attention the most are these three bumps up here, which is nothing more and nothing less than where the cameras are installed.
I’m not convinced by the design, I would have integrated them more into the rails, but at NIO they want all their technology to be seen from the outside. What for me is best solved aesthetically are the cameras integrated into the wheel arches. Even more beautiful than in the saloon, which have been placed here, and it is better integrated into the whole. Here we have 21-inch wheels, which are not the ones on the base model, which are 20 inches, and you get the biggest ones if you choose the model with a 100 kWh battery.
Here we have integrated handles, which we already know from this and other electrical manufacturers. We also have them on the rear doors. And we come to the trunk, which is key because the saloon has been widely criticized for its small cargo space. This is large with its 570 liters, and we have a double floor that allows us to reach 658. You can also fold the second row, and in that case you reach 1,545 liters. Enough for the whole family.
