YouTube has started a test process in which you are trying to check whether some of the latest ideas you have succeed or not. One of them, mainly the one that most attracts attention, has the objective of allowing videos at a speed higher than usual.
Maybe knowing it, you get your hands to your head, but there are many YouTube, Netflix and other video services that have the habit of reproducing the contents at a speed higher than normal. And, having that as a reference, YouTube wants to provide them with support to carry their practice a little further.
When x2 is not enough
Until now, YouTube already allowed reproductions of a maximum of X2, providing users with a wide versatility to define exactly their preferred reproduction speed. But on YouTube they want to see what are the impressions of taking this maximum limit to an X4 stop. And that experimental function, at least for the moment, is now available for YouTube Premium users. Of course, with some restrictions. For example, only users of mobile devices iOS and Android have been activated, while, in addition, YouTube has already mentioned that the experiment will end on February 26.
From there, the company will analyze the results, use trends and statistics to reach a conclusion about whether it could be a characteristic in which the public is interested. In some cases, these types of experiments end up disappearing without leaving or trace, while other times they have been well received and have ended up moving to the official version of YouTube. In this case, although it may sound shocking, it should not be surprised if speed X4 ends up being established as a characteristic that is available to all users.
Is it really necessary?
As we said before, there are many people who reproduce videos at X2 and even see series and movies at this speed level. They find it more convenient because they can end reproduction before and do not end up being annoying, although the truth is that you are breaking the work as conceived. There are those who use it, above all, in those slow series that it seems that they do not end up moving forward and from which you want to know what happens next.
If we think about it, it is not a bad concept. A series of 40 minutes to X2 ends ending in 20 minutes, which can be wonderful to save time. However, it is obvious that it is not easy to get used to this type of concept and, on the other hand, there are many industry professionals who criticize it. On YouTube, accelerate reproduction is as easy as touching the screen keeping it pressed with your finger and adjusting the speed of reproduction as we want.
In the case of speed X4, for now it is not possible to configure it in that way and only the option of clicking on the gear remains and adjust the speed manually. Those who have tried this new level of reproduction speed confirm something that we could be imagining: that it is practically impossible to understand the dialogues and voices of the videos. Therefore, it does not seem a highly recommended idea for many types of content. But where they say it can be useful is when we talk about tutorials or some types of video that flow faster and do not need so much dialogue.
Other functions that are being tested include jumps within the video in its web version, something that is very practical and can be tested in browsers until February 5. In addition, YouTube is also testing smart downloads in iOS and image mode for shorts, also in the iOS version. Finally, in iOS and Android, YouTube Test High Quality sound for the 256 Kbps format. As we indicated, it will still be to see which of these functions end up adopting definitively.
