Spain has more than 1,400 Internet service providers. It is the European leader in the deployment and use of fiber optics in European countries of a similar size and an example for the world. Today, we know which are all the operators that deploy fiber in Spain beyond thinking only of Movistar, Orange, Vodafone and MásMóvil.

Although a few days ago we already echoed the report presented in Madrid by the wholesale fiber operator Onivia and the telecommunications consultancy Nae, the truth is that we would like to focus on the operators that deploy fiber in Spain. The report has divided them into levels, the first of which is known to all of us. Operators have been classified into three levels, based on their size and presence.

Level 1, old acquaintances

In the first level we find the four largest operators in our country with millions of homes connected to fiber. In order of access we find Movistar in first place with its more than 26 million coverage in our country. The blue giant has the largest fiber network in Europe and one of the five largest in the world.

It is closely followed by Orange, which has almost 20 million wired homes, with a huge network that is also among the largest on the continent. Third position goes to Vodafone with a network that combines HFC cable and FTTH fiber to the home. Finally, the MásMóvil Group is placed in fourth position, although it can offer its services in 29 million homes thanks to agreements with third parties such as Orange.

Levels 2 and 3

The second level is occupied by Digi, Avatel and Adamo. Here we still have operators known to all of us. The most notable is Digi, which is even bidding to acquire the leftover assets from the merger between Orange and MásMóvil. This could quickly place you in Tier 1 due to the size and presence of your fiber optic network.

Finally, we find in the third level local operators such as Olivenet, Aire Networks, PTV Telecom, Cableword, E Ports, Netcan, Fibwi, Sarenet, Tecnolanza and Fibergreen. The report highlights that they are leaders in 189 municipalities, especially in the southeastern area of the peninsula. Surely some of them are familiar to us depending on the presence they have in our town, although they are quite far from the figures of level 1 and 2.

And this would be the ranking of fiber deployment in Spain from the largest operators to other more local ones that serve to close the deployment gap in many areas of our country. Thanks to all of them we are one of the countries with the best fixed connections in the world, something of which we have to be very proud.
