South Korean telecommunications company SK Telecom has announced the launch of a high-capacity wired network that offers 400 gigabits per second and would offer four times the speed of the currently used 100 Gbps network.

Sk Telecom has already officially announced the arrival of this high-capacity 400 gigabits per second wired network for its mobile communication backbone that will support the network globally and greatly improve the efficiency of network management. grid. What it would allow would be to reduce the number of wired networks that connect the backbone network and would also allow for a much faster response in the event of a breakdown or failure if we take into account the speeds achieved so far.

In addition, SK Telecom assures that they will also closely monitor the performance of the lines and equipment using all types of artificial intelligence systems that will allow optimal operation of the network and will allow automating surveillance functions.

Up to 400 Gbps

According to the company’s statements, “an increasing number of services require high-capacity communication data traffic, such as artificial intelligence or the cloud.” Taking this into account, they explain, “we decided to adopt this wired network before the expansion of communication networks derived from the future advancement of 5G and 6G commercialization.”

The technology is already being tested, although, at the moment, it is under development and expansion. Sk Telecom will intend to expand it to spines across the country during its testing phase, but it is still only available in some neighborhoods. In principle, the network is being tested in the neighborhoods of Seongsu and Boramae in the city of Seoul, but it will be a matter of time before it reaches more users and expands throughout the country.

In addition, they note, not only does it have a great advantage in terms of technology and efficiency in the network, improving speed, but it also has other types of advantages. It will reduce the impact on the environment and, according to the company, it is expected to have positive impacts on the environment thanks to the fact that it will significantly reduce energy consumption. It will reduce energy consumption, equipment space requirements and also carbon dioxide emissions.

Advantages of 5G

The expansion of 5G is already a reality worldwide and has all kinds of advantages. Beyond the improvement in connection speed, there are other types of advantages that we can have if we use 5G networks: there is lower latency when we connect to the Internet, which makes it better when playing, for example. but also for other tasks such as autonomous driving.

Not only is it faster and with less latency, it improves the security of mobile networks and reduces interference, but it also achieves greater energy efficiency with a technology that reduces the energy consumption of devices. Or it also allows us the possibility of connecting more devices, something beneficial with the popularity of IoT.
