A Nissan Ariya will go from the North Pole to the South Pole

It will make the trip with battery of series.

Nissan has set itself a considerable challenge to achieve with the second electric car in its range: go from the North Pole to the South Pole in a Nissan Ariya and, to complicate things a bit more, everything related to the propulsion system and the battery will be completely standard.

It is said soon, but we are talking about a journey of 27,000 kilometers, in which for a large part there are no places to recharge a zero emissions vehicle, in addition to the fact that it will face very low temperatures, which further reduces its range.

It is a problem when undertaking the task, but the brand has opted for an ecological solution to solve it: both solar panels and a wind turbine have been placed on the roof of the vehicle, so that the SUV can accumulate energy both while driving and when stopped.

However, it will also have to face snow and icy surfaces, which has motivated the other main modification of the vehicle and which is actually the most striking: the suspension has been restructured to accommodate off-road tires of no less than 39 inches. .

Its inclusion has also made it necessary to modify the bodywork with widened wheel arches that give it a much more forceful imprint.

The adventurers who will go aboard the electric are Chris Ramsey and Julie Ramsey. Nissan points out that the former is a “confessed coffee lover”, so they have integrated an espresso machine with a sustainable coffee supply into the car.

Chris Ramsey, Pole to Pole Expedition Leader, said: “One of the things that underpins all the adventures we do is that we take a standard production electric vehicle and aim to make minimal changes to clearly demonstrate its real, everyday capabilities, no matter where you are driving it”.

“Our Nissan Ariya is no different, as the vehicle’s powertrain and battery have remained factory standard, demonstrating just how capable and versatile the production Ariya is.”

Julie Ramsey, Pole to Pole co-pilot, said: “The planning and preparation for Pole to Pole has been such a big part of our lives for the last four years, so I am really looking forward to getting the expedition underway in March.” .

“We are going to discover so many interesting initiatives from communities and individuals who are taking positive action against climate change and I look forward to sharing these experiences and stories with everyone. We are doing something that has never been attempted before, a world first, and ultimately that is what makes it so exciting,” he adds.
