The Audi Q8 sits at the top of the Audi range. A large SUV, but with a coupé cut that uses high-performance mechanics, but, curiously, enjoys good DGT labels on practically all of them. We are going to analyze its strengths and weaknesses in view of a possible purchase.
The first point in favor is in its aesthetics. Yes, it is true that for tastes the colors, but we must recognize the German brand that has found the features to be able to convey a feeling of sportsmanship and muscle in such a large model, achieving an athletic set, which is not at all easy.
Speaking of size, with a length that is close to 5 meters long, the truth is that it has a spacious interior even despite its coupé-style roof drop. In addition, it is also capable of offering a boot of considerable size, which offers 605 liters that can be expanded to 1,755 by folding down the rear seats.
In addition, as the top of the Audi range that it is, it is simply loaded with technology: three screens, an improved navigation system, a high-performance sound system signed by Bang & Olufsen, autonomous parking, Wi-Fi, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise and unintentional shift assistant, etc.
The Audi Q8 is a mass that also uses medium and high power engines. But, the best thing is that, despite this, the vast majority of the range has either an ECO label or a ZERO label from the DGT.
All the conventional engines of the model have microhybridization, both the diesel blocks, available in powers of 231 and 286 hp, and the gasoline, which develops 340 hp. Thus, it is hardly affected by restrictions despite its size and performance. As they say, made the law, made the trap.
The icing on the cake in this regard is actually double, since there are two different alternatives with a plug-in hybrid configuration, an access one with 381 CV and a superior one with 462 CV. Given that their electric autonomy is 45 kilometers, they show off the cleanest label granted by the DGT.
Finally, for those who prefer to take off their masks and admit that they have a high-performance SUV without making it up with any electrification, the 507 hp SQ8 but, above all, the 600 hp RS Q8, are among the first positions of SUVs of sports cut of its category.
The main weak point of the Audi Q8 is its price. Yes, we know that by segment, approach and conception it is a model that is going to be expensive, but that does not mean that we are not talking about an amount that must be considered slowly and carefully.
It starts at 84,370 euros in its most accessible version and whoever wants to go for one of the sports court variants, something that may be logical given the character of the SUV, will have to pay at least 125,130 euros.
Another aspect to take into account is whether it makes sense to go for a large coupé-style SUV. In this segment, theirs is to make the most of the space, not to look for such a sporty design, and with this rational approach, an Audi Q7, with a traditional bodywork and a significantly lower price, may be a better alternative.
Finally, you have to be aware that it is a very large model, so it is a good idea to buy it if you are looking for a model with interior space, but you have to know that it is not an excessively practical vehicle for certain things: narrow places, parking in certain places, etc.
