Some Steam gamers are out of luck. It was already announced at the beginning of the year that the platform was going to leave aside older versions of Windows, and the day has finally arrived. Users with a PC with Windows 7 and 8 will no longer have the opportunity to enjoy video games from this operating system through this gaming service. So it is time for you to make a difficult decision.

Not only do they no longer have official support from Microsoft, but gamers with a computer with Windows 7 and Widnows 8 are already witnessing how Steam is going to stop working on their PCs. It was already confirmed just a few days ago when the latest version of this platform was no longer compatible with these two versions of the Microsoft operating system. And although it will not stop working overnight, there is little left before it will completely stop having support for computers with these systems.

Steam says goodbye to Windows 7 and 8

At the beginning of the year, Valve announced that these two versions of Windows were no longer supported. However, it was not until this week that it became a reality and what was going to happen next was really shown. And, as the video game platform explains, they will no longer be supported. Although, it will be done in steps.

With the update to the latest version of Steam, it appears that it will no longer work on Windows 7 or Windows 8, two old versions of this operating system. Therefore, users who have a PC with one of these two versions and have this platform installed will not receive the new version automatically. For now, they will be able to continue enjoying Steam until some change is made to the server, which will mean they will be left without the possibility of playing video games from this platform.

Once you are unable to access Steam, you will not be able to play the video games you have downloaded. Valve’s plans are as follows:

  1. End of support for Windows 7 and 8.
  2. It will continue to work for a while on these PCs.
  3. Update the Steam server.
  4. End of full support for these two operating systems.

When this entire process is carried out, it means that users with either of these two versions will be left without the possibility of accessing the platform and, therefore, the games they have purchased. What is the only solution? Update the PC to Windows 10 or Windows 11. However, this poses a problem, and that is that not all older computers have this possibility, and if they do, it is possible that this version of the Microsoft OS will not work as well. good.

For now, the best thing to do is wait. Especially if Steam continues to work without problems for you. When you can no longer access it, then you have to make a decision: upgrade Windows or switch to a more modern PC that has the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system. A decision that will have to be made if you want to continue enjoying this Valve video game platform.
