Operators compete as the months go by to see which one manages to add more clients, both as new registrations and through portability, that is, those that come from other operators. In any case, the latest data recorded by the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) show how the situation is.

Digi, Movistar, MasOrange, Vodafone… are the operators that are competing to gain as many customers as possible. What is clear is that the Romanian operator continues to lead the ranking of companies that steal the most users from other operators. Now, what about the other giants in the telecom sector?

The data of each operator

Not all companies achieve the same results, that’s clear. According to the latest data published by the CNMC, which corresponds to the month of August, there are several interesting points. For example, mobile portability was below 500,000 telephone company changes. Specifically, 410,177 ports were registered, which represents 7.6% less compared to the same period last year.

In addition to this, Movistar and other MVNOs such as Digi did register a positive net portability balance. Although, Vodafone and MasOrange did not have the same fortune. In this case, both telecoms had negative balances.

To have a clearer idea, in the case of the Spanish operator Movistar, its net balance remained at 13,650 changes for the Telefónica company. Up to 54,245 users left the blue operator, however, it stole up to 67,895 subscribers from other companies. Even so, despite having been positive, it is very far from Digi. The positive balance of this operator is not specified, but that of the OMVs, which obtained up to 46,612 changes. However, it must be remembered that the cheap operator has almost 700,000 net ports in the first nine months of the year. So it is a figure that may surprise many.

On the other side of the coin are MasOrange and Vodafone, two operators that close August with negative balances in terms of portability. On the part of the MasOrange Group that arises from the merger between MasMovil and Orange, they lost up to 49,753 clients. And on the Zegona company’s side, the loss was 10,509 subscribers.

August was positive for operators

Although fewer ports were registered, according to CNMC data, August was not a bad month for telephone companies. On the contrary, it was good since the operators ended the month with more mobile customers than during July: Movistar added 19,780, Vodafone 35,450 customers and MasOrange 73,660 users. In addition, it must be taken into account that these three telecoms represented 90.6% of all mobile lines on the current market.

Regarding fixed broadband lines, that is, home Internet, it is also important to mention that nine out of ten lines were from Movistar, Vodafone and MasOrange. Among other data, fixed telephony lost 2,626 lines and mobile lines with broadband grew 2.5% more than in 2023, since 52.98 million lines were registered.
