It will affect about 500,000 inhabitants
Civil Protection retests the alerts in the event of a possible risk; in this case, they will carry out a simulation of a problem. In addition to the alerts on Android or iOS devices, a total of 50 sirens will also sound in 22 municipalities of Barcelona, also including the port and the Free Trade Zone, in addition to the Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Vallès Oriental and Vallès regions. Although, the most important thing is that its mobile advertising system will be tested on about 500,000 people. Therefore, these citizens will receive an alert message on their smartphones starting tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. On the other hand, a confinement drill will also be carried out in Sant Boi de Llobregat, since it is an area with a larger population that could be affected by this particular emergency scenario.
The beeping on cell phones will affect some 500,000 users in the different areas supposedly affected by this emergency drill. So if you are within this area or close to a siren hearing radio, the truth is that you will receive a warning message about the start of the test. If you don’t know if you have this system activated on your phone, you can check it as follows:
- On Android: go to Settings, go to Security and Emergencies > Alerts > check the Civil Protection Pre-Alert option.
- On iPhone: go to Settings, go to the Notifications section, slide and look for the Civil Protection Pre-Alerts tab.
Therefore, with this new Civil Protection test, as they have already explained, the aim is to check once again that the alert systems work without problems. Just as there is also the purpose of preparing the inhabitants for a possible emergency scenario of different characteristics.
Regarding the duration of the test, which will be carried out tomorrow, it will last approximately 15 minutes. In addition, citizens will be warned that it is not a real risk, but rather an emergency drill. As has been done on previous occasions. For deaf people, they will receive a specific SMS-type message, and they will also receive a message from Civil Protection about the start of this alert sound. So starting at 10:00 a.m., your smartphone may beep loudly, but it will only be another test of this emergency system.
