Fiat Topolino, the small electric car from Stellantis now with an Italian essence

The Italian firm has just revealed the new Fiat Topolino, the Italian version of the small electric car from Stellantis with its own character and style.

Stellantis developed a small electric car some time ago as a mobility solution for large cities. This vehicle first came as Citroën AMI and then as Opel Rocks-e. Now, the automotive giant has developed a new version of this car, but with an Italian essence. This is the new Fiat Topolino.

For the moment, Fiat has not revealed all the details of the new Topolino, but it assures that it is a car “made for the city” that “expands mobility and freedom also to the youngest”. It is fully electric and shares technical characteristics with the AMI and the Rocks-e, but has received specific treatment in terms of exterior and interior design.

The fully electric quadricycle from the Turin firm is inspired by the first Fiat 500, with a front where we find small round headlights with a frame that flanks them, some second slightly smaller headlights, the new Fiat logo and a molding that evokes to the classic metal bumpers of the ’50s and ’60s. Also, we can see the inscription ‘Topolino’ right in the middle.

The small 14-inch wheels receive classic-style plastic trim with Fiat logo and the doors have been removed for an open cab configuration, complemented by a retractable canvas roof that brings even more light and airiness to the cabin.

The seats with integrated bolsters also look new, although the rest of the Fiat Topolino’s interior, where there is only room for two occupants, is most likely identical to the Citroën and Opel models.

Fiat assures that the Topolino “is perfectly adapted to the city and to people who are looking for a fresh and sustainable mobility solution.” The car is aimed at the young generation, since it is possible to drive it in Spain from the age of 15 who are in possession of the AM license.

Being based on the AMI and the Rocks-e, we are talking about a car that is only 2.41 meters long and 1.39 meters wide, weighs less than 500 kilos and is equipped with a small electric motor with a power of 6 kW (8.2 CV) and a 5.5 kWh battery that allows it to standardize a range of 75 kilometers per charge.

Its maximum speed is 45 km/h, its battery can be charged in about 3 hours from a domestic charging socket and it has a DGT Zero label. At the moment, Fiat has not announced the prices of the new Topolino, but has confirmed that the marketing of its new urban electric will begin in Spain in April 2024.
