Bugatti is used to the fact that, when it makes a car, it automatically gets into the top of “the most X” of categories of all kinds: the most expensive cars, the most powerful cars, the fastest… Its latest creation, the Bugatti W16 Mistral, follows the tradition and is in the Olympus of convertibles… but it is not enough to be placed on the absolute throne.
The brand has just revealed the maximum speed of the roadster based on the Bugatti Chiron and, as expected, it is spectacular: it can reach up to 420 km/h, a point that should impress if we take into account that it is going under the open sky.
However, it is not enough to make it the fastest convertible in the world, although just barely. That title is currently held by the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder, which has a top speed of 427.4 km/h. So close and at the same time so far… although it is possible that soon the crown will be even further away.
This is because the same company introduced the Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster this summer, a beast ready to smash all records. It mounts a 6.6 V8 engine that develops 1,842 CV of power and 1,617 Nm of maximum torque, with which it intends to reach a top speed of 500 km/h.
It has not yet achieved it, but the manufacturer is working to achieve the official record, which would establish a mark that a priori seems impossible to match, unless Bugatti launched an even more radical version of the Bugatti Mistral, something that does not seem that be in your plans.
It is strange to say that the W16 Mistral falls short in performance, especially if we take into account that the convertible mounts the already iconic 8.0 W16 engine with four turbos that develops 1,600 horsepower.
Let us also remember that it is a truly exclusive model, since only 99 units will be manufactured, all of them sold even before their presentation and despite the fact that their starting price is five million euros.
