While free streaming platforms such as Plex or PlutoTV are becoming increasingly popular in Spain, others such as Tubi are still not as popular. This is understandable, since Tubi is a North American service that is not available in Spain, but anyone with a VPN can easily log in and access a content catalogue that, as a large number of users on social networks have been arguing, is not far behind that of large platforms such as Netflix.
In fact, some users claim that Tubi is now of a high quality comparable to that of Netflix in its origins. “Tubi is so underrated that it’s like Netflix in 2010. You wouldn’t believe what they have,” says @norm_follower. “Free streaming services with ads are incredibly underrated in general,” says @Caporuscio_Jack. Indeed, FAST channels (streaming channels that don’t require any payment in exchange for commercial breaks like on traditional TV) are gaining a loyal audience with each passing day.
The economy forces us to avoid waste, and the sheer number of different streaming services makes it too expensive to own several. All in all, FAST platforms manage to gain an audience by offering free content that is also usually of quite high quality and can even be better than the new original series and films produced by the big platforms.
Thus, on X, there are plenty of comments praising Tubi and celebrating the good content it has, although, of course, there is also some filler. Although some even see the positive side to its less attractive content: “They have a lot of good stuff, but I also really enjoy the garbage. I am a big fan of poorly made independent horror. The options are endless. There is nothing like this anywhere else,” says @Cooperstreaming.

End of the month tweet: Tubi is actually really good. They have great shows and movies and it’s completely free. I’m putting on movies that I missed, ones I love rewatching and a couple shows here and there.

Tubi can be satisfied with the free advertising that its subscribers give on social networks. Users appreciate being able to watch movies like Blue Velvet (1986), Memories of Murder (2003), Ghost in the Shell (1995) or Aguirre: The Wrath of God (1977). Authentic classics that you can access for free and also from Spain, if you have a VPN with which to move your location to the United States. Although it is expected that many contents are available only in English, as the North American is its main market (in fact, it is the number 1 free platform in this country), the large Hispanic population means that many shows also have audio or subtitles in Spanish.
A grateful audience
“Tubi is a national treasure,” says @afrocosmist, adding that its ad breaks usually don’t even last that long, and aren’t that intrusive. Other users appreciate its wide range of niche categories, such as martial arts or ninjas. Tubi is currently promoting its original “Wynonna Earp: Vengeance,” an action series based on a story beloved by American audiences.
Coming soon to the platform are films such as Ghostbusters 1 and 2, Happy Feet (2006), IT (2017), Scooby-Doo (2002), Kick-Ass (2010) and The Mask (1994).
