Seat’s first SUV arrived at Spanish dealerships in 2016 and since then more than 85,000 units have been sold. We are talking about the compact Seat Ateca. A year later, the Seat Arona would arrive, an urban vehicle that has made history by becoming the first SUV to lead the ranking of best-selling models in one year, specifically in 2021. In four years, more than 84,000 units have been sold. The range would be completed in 2018 with the Seat Tarraco, the largest with up to seven seats and of which there are already almost 10,000 circulating in Spain.

In these five years, the three SUVs already account for 53% of Seat sales in Spain at the end of 2021, adding a total of 37,799 units. Globally, these three models represent 49% of sales, with 192,100 units sold.

Why are so many SUVs being sold?

SUVs or SUVs have become a mass phenomenon. If in 2012 only one in five cars sold had this bodywork (19%), now it is more than half (56%). The smallest SUVs (segment B) have experienced a strong evolution from a 3% share in 2012 to 25% in 2021, while those of medium size (segment C) have gone from a 13% share to 26%, with a more sustained increase.

Why are so many SUVs being sold? Fundamentally because they have known how to combine what is most demanded by customers in the urban and compact segments and that of minivans (in the midst of a sales crisis): SUVs offer good legroom and comfort, have a versatile interior, a raised driving, they have an attractive design and their driving is dynamic (or sporty). In addition, in some cases they have four-wheel drive to circulate with greater grip on offroad roads, as is the case with the Ateca and the Tarraco.

Seat SUVs already represent 53% of the brand’s sales in Spain.

Seat has been able to take advantage of the pull that this bodywork is having with three models that we have requeteprovedo in Coches.net. Here are some links to the Seat Ateca, Seat Arona and Seat Tarraco tests:
