Starlink’s goal is to offer Internet worldwide at speeds of up to 1 Gbps with a latency of 25 ms. To connect, it is necessary to install a receiver on the roof that follows the satellite network in the sky to offer the best coverage at all times. An excellent solution for isolated areas with poor service through traditional routes, which now also suffers from an increase in price.
It is common for Elon Musk to grab the headlines due to the development of innovative technologies. SpaceX is listed as one of the companies that offers more space solutions in recent times. Starlink is the satellite network developed by SpaceX. As recent milestones the company has helped maintain Ukraine’s Internet connection by offering them support. However, due to continuous inflation, SpaceX has brutally raised the price of its satellite Internet, leaving it far from being accessible to everyone.
The reason for the price increase: inflation
SpaceX informed users yesterday that due to the inflation that is taking place, the prices of the Starlink packages will suffer an increase in their cost. The company has begun to contact its customers via email alerting them to the increase, an increase that affects all aspects of the service and that will come into force in the near future. The message says the following:
“Due to excessive levels of inflation, the price of the Starlink kit will increase from $499 to $549 for deposit holders and $599 for all new orders, starting today. Additionally, the price of Starlink’s monthly service will increase from $99 to $110. The new price will be applied to your subscription on 05/11/2022. The sole purpose of these adjustments is to keep pace with rising inflation. If you don’t want to continue your service, you can cancel at any time and return your Starlink hardware within your first year of service for a $200 partial refund. If you’ve received your Starlink within the last 30 days, you can return it for a full refund. Since launching our public beta service in October 2020, the Starlink team has tripled the number of satellites in orbit […] Going forward, users can expect Starlink to maintain its cadence of continuous network enhancements as well as the addition of new features.”
SpaceX attributes this decision to ongoing inflation, not pleasant news for all users of Elon Musk’s satellite Internet. Those who decide to unsubscribe motivated by this increase in the service, will obtain a partial refund of the $200 initially deposited.
Therefore, the equipment of the most advanced broadband Internet system in the world goes from costing 499 euros to 639 euros, to which must be added shipping and management 60 euros, 99 euros for service per month and 9 euros per month in regulatory fee concept.
