The Civil Guard’s suspicions are that these false job offers have the mission of collecting information from victims to use in future fraud or even to try to involve victims in illegal activities.

These mass sendings of SMS or even communications via WhatsApp, Instagram and others, have the common element that they contact us to opt for supposed job offers with very advantageous conditions. Other common characteristics of this type of scam have to do with the easy money that is obtained, the few hours a day to do the new job, the possibility of working from anywhere and above all… that the candidates are selected supposedly at random. , without them having applied for these offers.

Tips to detect false job offers

The National Cybersecurity Institute, through the Internet User Security Office, has a manual to avoid falling into scams like the ones we have mentioned. To do this, it gives a series of basic guidelines to distinguish a real offer from a fraudulent one.

Job search phase

  • When you find a job offer online, make sure that the information it contains is consistent. Does the company offering the vacancy exist or is it known? Does the offered salary match the job description? Where will the work be carried out? Will there be a prior selection process? Is it a legitimate activity?, etc.
  • If you receive the job offer online without having requested it or having signed up for any notification process of these characteristics, doubt its veracity. Please seek more information about the offer before taking any action.
  • Job advertisements that are poorly written or contain spelling mistakes must be quarantined, they are clear signs of possible fraud. Companies with a certain reputation take great care of their image and do not usually make these types of mistakes.
  • If after submitting an application for a job they ask you for money or to make a payment under some pretext, do not simply agree to the requests. Analyze the situation carefully since you could be facing a clear case of fraud.
  • Be suspicious of advertisements that advertise highly paid jobs from home or abroad, in which no prior experience is required. It is one of the main strategies used by cybercriminals: publishing jobs in which you can supposedly make money, in a short time and easily.
