Given the price escalation in the rates of the three main national operators, portability has been the solution found by many dissatisfied customers. As a result, in the first month of 2023 both Vodafone and Movistar and Orange lost customers in their net results.
We are going to review what the portability figures have been in January 2023 and which operators have accused them to a greater and lesser extent.
Bad start to the year for Movistar, Orange and Vodafone
The year has not started well for the three large national operators, who have suffered from the rise in prices (already effective in Movistar and Vodafone and soon to come into force in Orange) and, consequently, end up with a negative balance in portability, losing customers both in landlines and mobile.
As reported by Cinco Días, Vodafone lost portability around 21,800 mobile phone lines, in addition to another 11,200 in fixed lines. In the case of Movistar, it also ended with negative results and customers who have left Movistar, since it lost 17,000 mobile lines, as well as 20,900 fixed telephony accesses in the first month of the year.
The case of Orange is less bloody perhaps because its price changes have been announced, but they have not materialized yet, so we will have to see how things change as of March 26, the date chosen by the orange operator for the increase. of prices. In January, Orange has lost some 6,700 mobile phone lines and around 1,000 fixed lines.
Digi is the big winner in portability
Once the status of the three major operators has been reviewed, it is necessary to look further and see where all those lost customers are going or, in other words, see which operators achieve positive results in portability.
The great beneficiary is Digi, who begins 2023 with more than 48,500 net mobile and fixed lines in January, which represents an increase of more than 34% compared to a year ago. Of these, more than 38,300 correspond to net portability of mobile telephony.
Other operators with green numbers at the beginning of the year have been MásMóvil, which gained around 7,000 fixed lines in the portability of January, although it lost close to 1,000 connections on mobile lines and thus offsets the gain in one segment with the loss in other.
All these figures are estimates that will soon be confirmed by official data from the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC).
