What happened to Disney+ Day? Will it return in 2024 with the Disney+ offer for €1.99?

Remember Disney+ Day? It became an epic celebration that gave us, among other things, the cheapest subscription ever seen to the streaming service. Now the question is whether, in 2024, we will also get to see this event or if the mouse company will decide to leave it for a future occasion. What can we expect?

Many people clearly remember September 8, 2022, because it was the moment when thousands of users subscribed to Disney+ for the first time. The reason was none other than the celebration of Disney+ Day, an event in which, among other things, the explosive offer of Disney+ for only 1.99 euros was launched. The world showed Disney something obvious: that for that price, there is no one who wants to be left without access to the content in its catalog. Thanks to this, Disney+ subscription became a huge success.

Looking back

Unfortunately, Disney+ Day only allowed us to sign up for the streaming deal for 1 month. It was a way for the company to share with the entire planet the good state of the service and the great popularity it was amassing. Of course, it was also a twist to improve its numbers and get a disproportionately large number of users. After all, it was less than 2 euros.

Of course, as we said, the offer only lasted for one month. After this period of time, accounts were renewed at the normal price or users were left without access to Marvel, Star Wars and other content available on the platform. Naturally, not everyone unsubscribed. Many people continued to subscribe to Disney+ because they had already tasted the honey and were now not willing to leave the service (at least, perhaps, until the next price increase). At the same time, it was also a very smart move to reinforce the value of its releases and content. Disney knows very well that the more people talk about its productions, the more likely it is to add users, so it was a very smart decision.

So now we’re left wondering if Disney+ Day will be repeated. Considering that Disney+ has recently had a controversial price increase in the United States and that there are rumors that we could also have a cost increase in Spain within the next few months, an initiative like this would be a good way to surround themselves with optimism. They could also fudge their data, of course, because users benefit from cheap entertainment, but executives see these opportunities in a very different light.

Disney+ Day in 2024, yes or no?

For now, neither yes nor no. The truth is that Disney has not spoken out. The bad news is that, already in 2023, the platform decided to skip the event that had been held continuously for two years. It is possible that the massive series removal campaign that took place in 2023 on Disney+ could have something to do with it, although it must be recognized that they did not have bad premieres in the last months of the year. On the other hand, there was Disney+ Day in 2021 and also in 2022. The 2022 one took place on September 8, which could mean that the date has already passed and that, therefore, it will not be held in 2024 either. But nothing could be further from the truth! The first Disney+ Day took place on November 12, which leaves the door open for it to also be held this time in the coming months.

Disney would actually be right to delay the event until November. By launching the cheap month offer, it would leave users who benefit from it with the question of whether to renew their subscription or not at Christmas. And everyone knows that, at Christmas, you want to have a platform like Disney+ to entertain the kids, to re-watch Home Alone and to enjoy the Santa Claus movies and series starring Tim Allen. The move would be a masterstroke: a free month between November 12 and December 12 and then a huge temptation to renew for at least one more month.

If the Disney+ team does its job well, that “extra month” could be extended beyond that, especially if they release a series that really engages users. The bad news is that, in recent times, the Disney+ lineup has been improvable. Even the series produced within its most valuable brands, such as Marvel and Star Wars, have ended up cancelled, unrenewed or forgotten. Of course, it is never too late to correct the mistakes of the recent past. In addition, Disney+ still has two cards up its sleeve that will possibly become its biggest hits of 2025: the release on the platform of the films Deadpool and Wolverine and Inside Out 2, films that have revolutionized the box office.

But of course, we’d know more about their future intentions if Disney+ Day 2024 actually happens. In the previous two editions, in addition to discounts and subscription opportunities, the event was celebrated in style because many release dates and news were revealed. This year, some of the plans have already been announced at the Disney D23 conference, but the company is probably still preparing a wave of information that will be revealed before the end of the year. What better way to announce it than with a Disney+ Day that brings us Disney+ again for a minimal price? Fingers crossed!
