Yamaha’s electric offensive has already begun with the announcement of its new electric scooters, the Yamaha EMax and Yamaha Neos.
The tuning fork brand launches its Switch On campaign, under which it officially begins its expansion in the electric world -until now it had electric scooters for the Taiwan and Japanese markets-. Far away is his first skirmish in this field with the EC-03, launched in 2010 by the then active and friendly president Hiroyuki Yanagi.
The first to arrive will be the Yamaha Neos, a cycloscooter equivalent to a 50 cc moped and which, curiously, takes the same name as its well-known “lifelong” gasoline cycloscooter.
No features, no price, no features have been announced, but we’ll know more soon.
Thus, it will be a compact urban scooter, with the electric motor in the hub of the rear wheel and with removable lithium-ion batteries. It will have full led lighting, digital instrumentation and power outlet between the headlights, in the front shield.
The Yamaha Neo’s and the Yamaha EMax will be the first two Yamaha electric scooters for Europe
The second scooter that they will launch will be based on the E01 prototype –for now the brand maintains this name-.
It will be an equivalent to a 125 cc gasoline, an urban GT scooter that traces the lines of the prototype seen at the 2019 Tokyo show.
The new electric scooter will surely be called EMax, and will have 12” alloy wheels and disc brakes on both axles.
Its electric motor will be anchored to the chassis with the final transmission by toothed belt. The license plate is anchored to the swingarm while the rear light and indicators remain on the tail.
It will have full LED lighting, monochrome LCD screen instrumentation with smartphone connectivity, the battery will not be removable and the power outlet will be on the front shield, between the pair of headlights.
But unfortunately, the E01 will not go on sale yet, according to the president of Yamaha Europe. This E01 (EMax) will only be available in rental fleets, for the time being, which Yamaha will take advantage of as an experience to improve the product before launching it for sale.
To complement the official announcement of the firm, we also offer you some spy photos of the new Yamaha EMax in the testing phase.
The Yamaha Neos will be a moped while the EMax will be 125cc equivalent
And there is a third surprise, a prototype called B01, which will be a moped halfway between a bicycle and a moped, developed jointly with Motori Minarelli and Fantic.
Eric de Seynes, President of Yamaha Motor Europe, comments: “Yamaha is excited about expanding its personal mobility range and beginning an entirely new chapter in the company’s history. Thanks to Yamaha’s world-leading engineering capabilities and the support of its professional and committed dealer network, the introduction of these new electric products and related services will inspire a new generation of customers.”
We will soon know all the details of the project… We leave you with the official video.
